Any luck at Heritage last night?

A lot of VAMs sold last night, including several bargains IMO. I got the 1878 7TF VAM 166 PCGS VF35 CAC – a variety I feel is perpetually underappreciated for how tough it is. It made John Roberts' "A Dozen VAMs for 2023" list and while his comment about it was "no longer impossible to acquire", go...

Re: what is a 1887 VAM-10 in MS-64 worth?

The premiums for these holders, sometimes referred to as "engraved" holders, tend to be gigantic lately... like 10X (or more) the normal price.

Re: what is a 1887 VAM-10 in MS-64 worth?

Is there a premium value for VAM 10? There has been in the past (50-100%), although I can't even begin to understand why and I'm highly skeptical about it being repeatable. Your old "no-line fatty with gold lettering" holder, however, is scarce, popular, and very likely to continue bringing a nice p...

Re: what is a 1921 VAM-3BS worth?

No premium for the VAM, IMO -- as is the case for nearly all of the 469 different 1921-P VAMs.
But there is likely a modest premium for the rattler holder; those have increased in popularity the last few years.

Re: PCGS/NGC PL question

PL standards have shifted around a LOT over the past 35 years at grading services. Some of the coveted old holders are the most leniently judged coins when it comes to that designation. There are coins in old DMPL holders that are barely PL. The more PL/DMPL coins you see in person, the more abunda...

@RogerRock I know this is an old thread, but by coincidence I recently acquired a PCGS-62 coin that exactly matches your descriptions. It's now off to @messydesk for an attribution sticker.

The feed finger-polished area inside the wing really caught my eye:

Be careful out there folks, in the last week I've found a fake 1921-P in a fake PCGS holder and a fake raw 1921-D on eBay:

Here's an extreme example of what new collectors should watch out for and avoid at all costs, no matter how cheap:

Oh, Dennis!
First as the VAM 1BN, then as the VAM 1BP, and now as the VAM 131.
I think you're trying to set some sort of record for the number of times you can get this die pair listed...

I have no defense... just eager stupidity.

Were any of these the result of the JOH-22 question on earlier string?
Alas, no.
The JOH-22 arrived after I had shipped that batch to JB. It is now waiting to go out in the next batch.
