Re: Is this really what an 1878-P VAM-22(A) looks like up close?

Bumping this up as it was/is and honest question.

Looking at the main page and guide links I'd not have guessed this to be a VAM-22A without matching all the other PUPs.

Thanks to the experts for validation.

Re: 78-S S/S line lower loop?

V23 page has a decent picture of the S/S so used it as a comparator - looks different to me. Again, and as always, it might be gunk but at a minimun the coin in question does not have the same mint mark as the 23/37?

Thanks again for your help!

Is this really what an 1878-P VAM-22(A) looks like up close?

All other indicators show this to be a VAM-22 - the wing clash is in front of the neck but I don't see any 'n' transferred nor do I see a 't' transferred in the hair vee... but they might just be too subtle to see. On the reverse, the letter doublings, cracks, etc. all match rather nicely - includin...

Re: 78-S S/S line lower loop?

Looks like v-37 Thanks. The lower loop of the 23/37 looks more like a curved portion of the mint mark versus the one I see more like a line (must be the bottom portion?). Will look for other PUPs on the reverse and obverse, too, but the polishing lines off the front of the face look similar. Thanks...

78-S S/S line lower loop?

Again, I'm not any expert of this series - but I love them for the messy, convoluted jumble they are. Kinda like my family in all the best ways... Here's one that has me scratching my head because of the possible S/S (it is a slabbed 53 so not the most pristene coin - can't poke it with any stick bu...

Re: Time to Speculate ? / Hard Assets-Coins-Bullion

Even when I had a ridiculously bad job, I would buy a Morgan on payday, often for about $4. I still have them, and they are easier to care for than livestock. Brother, this is just ONE of the many reasons I hope discussions with you never end... Keeping the humor (or humour as I guess I should spel...

Re: New 78-S ??

Love the frustration brought on by the entire 78S series. I'm not an expert but this looks like a VAM-43 variant to me but it doesn't quite match the two dies exactly. Lots of different die combos for VAM-103, too, as we can't rule in or out any die chip on the E (E PLURI)... Yet, many of those can ...

Re: 1898-O V15 obv with normal and slight right tilt O mm?

Thanks, ljs123 . I believe it'll be a straight VAM-15 if the mm is designated as 'high' but it certainly doesn't appear as high as the other ones with that moniker. Tough part about vamming - vams are based on descriptions, not die combinations... yet many a vam has been put as a sub variety based o...

Curious - you selling one or looking to get one?

I've been looking for one - had one almost in the bag but someone out bid me recently at the last moment.

Re: 78-S VAM-28 with doubled LIBERTY?

Yeah, VAM 28. Take a look at the VAM 8 page. That doubling is plated by Van Allen Yup, see that now and blindingly obvious! Oops. Wondering if the guide page - http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1878-S_B2_Varieties - can be amended to move the VAM-28 from the " 4th Star Br...

78-S VAM-28 with doubled LIBERTY?

ShamShield 's question about a 78-S that possibly turned out to be a VAM-16 ( http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6823&p=56348#p56348 ) got me to looking at another coin I have. Definitely not a 16, but shares the reverse... therefore a 20 or a 28. Forehead and cotton leaf PUPs are th...

1898-O V15 obv with normal and slight right tilt O mm?

Convinced this is a VAM-15 obverse based on the date placement (normal, but almost near), the characteristic doubling of the 1 and a fairly similar doubling seen on the second 8: 1898-O 15obv-normal O tilt right mm date digits gredfeather.jpg but the MM is not high to my eye and and, if anything, se...
