Re: 14.17 sold tonight

Re: 1878 7TF Minor Renumbering
…also, to me the plain V131 (proof only) and unrelated V131 die 1 never made sense with others denoted as A, B, C. Yes, 130 is a debacle, and I maintain the middle 130C2 does not exist; discovery is really a C3…

Re: Scarce EDS of 78-S VAM 16 now VAM 16A
Earliest rev die is 20; EDS are 2-sided PL; LDS is 2-sided clashed; then came the EDS 16; my example is strong semi-PL; there are a couple of shorter gouges above the big one; not sure if die wear or polishing shortened the gouges (the standard one); LDS is 2–sided clashed; then cleaned up and used ...

Re: Scarce EDS of 78-S VAM 16 now VAM 16A
Fortunately, I have one! Fortunately, no new hole as I’ve got a 2-sided clashed LDS ( no letter transfer). Thanks goes out to Lew for getting the EDS recognized.

Re: Letter? (Updated with the rest of the story)
So, this is an interesting coin; the 1878 SF mint did not usually turn loose into circulation dollars with noteworthy clash marks. This is the otherwise very common V8 die 1. Note that some die 1 and all die 2 (when rusted became 8A) have a big chip at the E of UNITED. This does not, but I’d bet the...

Letter? (1878-S V 8 die 1)
I am leaning to "no" on the obverse neck (hair vee is clear) but added a few photos for the collective here.
