Re: Revisiting the "WHATS A 1881 O VAM 33B WORTH?" question (but as a die progression question)

Thanks, ljs123 . I did look at those, too, but I see them as slightly high normal with a slight left tilt, but I can't tell if they are different. My coin has the cracks (obv and rev) with what appears to be the curved arc in the lower portion of the O (I'd not call it an O/O but it does look like a...

Revisiting the "WHATS A 1881 O VAM 33B WORTH?" question (but as a die progression question)

Circling back to this http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4721#p41027 and moving it here because it doesn't have to do with "what its worth" and I'm still a bit confused. (Some of this is self-induced, but I blame my age... and the life I lived in the 1980s...) Besides, I have what app...

Re: Mallis VAM Library Up-Date

What a great resource. Nearly enough offerings to easily miss the "Liberary" in the title. Not a common term and often because of simple spelling mistakes, but it looks like Liberary is an acceptable variation of an electronic library (also know as an eLibrary)? Curuios, oops, curious minds want to ...

Re: Database of 'stolen' or missing coins?

Thanks, again, mate. I do not want to stand in the way of information gathering so please feel free to generate a poll. I'd love to hear how many folks have had issues, how many are worried about having items stolen, what they do or might do if the unfortunate happened/happens, and what they would t...

Re: Database of 'stolen' or missing coins?

Geseas - we're all deities in our own minds. Mostly when we're teenagers and invincible... Ah, I remember the 1970s and 80s well - well, not really because of the music, drinking, and... Oops, diversion over. I like the idea of a poll - yet don't know if it's necessary? As is true of health and dis...

Re: 1887-P VAM-19B Stage 7 and VAM-19A differences?

Thanks, John.

Brilliant enough to even guide me to confirm my 19A (stage 7) - a die pair in need or retirement. Sounds like my eyes...

Re: 1887-P VAM-19B Stage 7 and VAM-19A differences?

Thanks, @tmanhg.

I'm wondering if the table can be updated to unconfuse the easily confused like me. For example, the table can more clearly say Stage 0 = VAM-19; Stages 1-6 = VAM-19B; Stage 7 = VAM-19A.

Appreciate the clarification.

1887-P VAM-19B Stage 7 and VAM-19A differences?

I really appreciate the Die State Page http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/Die_States that Scott Hamilton and Juan Arrioja created for a fun little ditty, the 1887-P VAM-19 to VAM-19B (7 stages) and VAM-19A. I see that the final VAM-19B variant, VAM-19B.7 if you will, immedi...

Re: Database of 'stolen' or missing coins?

Who amongst the VAM goddesses and gods would/should be involved with this - or is it likely to go by the wayside as a good thought left unrealized?

I'm happy to help although my IS/IT skills are somewhat limited. I'll promise to make up the deficit with humor.

Re: Database of 'stolen' or missing coins?

vamsterdam , Absolutely agree that pictures would be invaluable. Very do-able now, too, because Dinolite or other microscopes are dirt cheap and the resolution of the pictures can easily fingerprint any one coin better than before. I think this would be hugely valuable even if coins are broken out ...

Database of 'stolen' or missing coins?

The post recently about coins being stolen in the mail got me looking into the Numismatic Crime Information Center (http://numismaticcrimes.org/) and/or other resources available to those of us who love the hobby but can't stand dealing with the people who are desperate enough, or deluded enough, to...

This sucks. People who do this will spend a special time in a special place... Glad to hear about the Numismatic Crime Information Center as I believe I am dealing with the loss of a few coins, too. All certified so traceable, thankfully. Is there no place on VamWorld besides here that we can post -...

Very glad to hear it! Even the simplest and smallest 'good' in our lives can make a huge difference. Let's keep engaging him as much and as long as possible. Apologies for missing this. Tried hard to stay up until midnight-ish my time but the sleep goddesses got the better of me.

Hoping to catch another one in the future OR, let's dream, of attending on live!

All the best in 2021, folks. And happy hunting.

Re: 1899-O near date

messydesk - thanks yet again for the insight. I often feel as if I'm in the Falklands (around 1982, and possibly on the wrong side of the battle). Nothing that warm around here, sadly, so proper UK-based the EXIF would show. alefzero - similar thanks. Subjectivity is an issue to deal with on normal...

1899-O near date

Not the prettiest lady, but one I'd appreciate hearing a few thoughts on. As I read it, it's a near date, relatively normal mint mark placement, which only shows a VAM-36 as an option. Yet, the digit is clogged and I've no stick small enough to poke around. Do I read the MM correctly? If it is a bit...

Maybe I will catch flack for saying this, but why does it really matter what VAM it might be? ... This is a case of the journey being more important than the destination. Amen. Amen. Amen. Re: 1921-P Morgan Vam-15 question

Kissov - brilliant guess and I believe correct. The cracking patterns match up with the exceptions of the ones across the eagle's wings and through "trust," and the lower wreath leaves on the reverse, and I don't see anything across Liberty's neck, but everything else matches up nicely. Interesting...

1921-P Morgan Vam-15 question

Admittedly not a fan of the year, but I'm looking at a few coins I bought as a kid in Wyoming back in the 1970s. A raw and rather unsightly (to my eyes) 17-berry, vanilla-ice cream coin seems to be a Vam-15 - but without the reverse die pitting and some extra early die cracks not shown on the 15 or ...
