I'm also curious if there's CC below the bow... and was born 138yrs ago.
Is there a significance to this that I'm not aware of?

I had been hunting the VAM3 progression for most of last year and posted that toned example that I still think has a letter on it...

*insert catchy title here...*

This one happened across my screen last week, and it seems 2020 wasn't quite done with me yet.

Didn't want to post it until it was en route to me, but shipping is going to take a while...

Boys... I... I think we did it...

I never noticed the round C's on the 78's...

I kinda like 'em better than the oval and spiked varieties.

Nice coin... :)

Re: Heritage Auction shipping Delay

I shipped from LA to Seattle, and after 8 days of disappearing into the ethereal, the package pulled a Houdini and reappeared in Boston 2 days ago. LA to Seattle via Boston. Elapsed time: 12 days so far. I have one coming in from Chicago that didn't even get scanned in for 6 days. So figure the larg...

Merry Christmas All!... And a Happy New... Progression?

'Ellos all! Hope everyone had a safe and successful, albeit slightly crazy, 2020. Not much to report on the whale hunt, but not a lot of opportunities to search in the wild this year. Hopefully 2021 sees us in with some better scavenging opportunities. Hope everyone has a very blesses Holiday season...

Re: 79-O... Wickedly Overpolished Rev ...HELP... Dare I say the L-word?

I can't make out any recognizable date doubling from those pics. I'm not that good with this series :( Is the top of the bottom bar of the 1 doubled and the bottom of the 7? Hopefully i can learn alongside you on this one :) Per the denticles: no i mean along the rim where it looks like they got sli...

Re: 79-O... Wickedly Overpolished Rev ...HELP... Dare I say the L-word?

Sure, I'll get you a date shot. Thanks for help. 79o is one of the weakest dates for me to attribute cuz I hardly ever VAM them aside looking for the v4/28 mint mark. As for your grease comment, are you saying you think the "stomped on" nature of this reverse is due to a light smattering of grease ...

Re: 79-O... Wickedly Overpolished Rev ...HELP... Dare I say the L-word?

Can i see the date? I'll try to help figure out what the base is... Weird that the stars and letters are also affected in places. Could have been right after a grease job? Edit: the more I look at how early in life the die looks... I'm going grease/schmutz, including the blob in the wreath. Nice den...

I sent in one for a double collar clash he labeled 2FG last year.

I wonder why the Peace series was so prone to this?

Re: Do you suffer from VAM Hypocorism?

Impaled Eagle. The coin that keeps coming back like a bad cold... It does? When it first surfaced a while back after 40+ years in the dark, it was more like Brigadoon, and being a coin pictured in the VAM book that shouldn't be there, VAM collectors find it a heck or a lot more desirable than a bad...

@TheYokel I agree with your diagnosis of those coins. I really like the experiment you are doing. I thought I was the only desert dweller doing stuff like that. It is a beautiful golden color though. Thanks!🐍 I keep custom silver art figurines in there on shelves so that I can open it and look at t...

Re: Scary new twist in Chinese counterfeits world....

You can tell lineage from toning patterns when you look at enough. That 63+ is album toned from a cardboard page. Dansco or Whitman most likely. You can even see the finger print in the center where they pressed it into the album. The stripe on the reverse is pretty common from coins stored with rub...
