Re: Breakout

I don't have a vice set up so I use 20" Channel Lock Pliers to control the amount of force to limit the amount of shatter.

Re: A clarification of why Roger Burdette is posting on VAM World

Yes Roger, Thank you for the research you do that many of us are either unable or unwilling to do. Thank you for taking the time to share with us the information that opens up the small windows in time that we can understand more about the process and events that influenced the minting of coins.

Re: Cost of shipping bullion and coins - Western Mints

Great to see these correspondence, thanks for sharing Roger.

Dennis it is beautiful and sad to know many schools do not teach this anymore. What I find amazing is that they were still using dip or quill pens at this time and still produced such appearance of perfection.

Re: Do you think you have a Doubled Die?

My perception on the term "doubled die" is that it should occur on all coins struck by that die. I have thought and said that doubling due to die wear and work on the die should not be listed as doubling. If it is continued to be listed, should it be described more clearly so not to confuse people i...

Re: 1935s VAM-2 Perhaps, With Wing Break (or PMD possibly)

I am not an expert in Peace dollars but believe the fact that the wing tip is touching the rim is due to how worn the coin is. The rim and details/devices grow slightly wider with heavy wear. Look at the rim of a MS Peace dollar of same year and mm and notice how high it is as well as how wide it is.

Lee I did check, it’s a 45. I will have to check my very first 45 as I attributed it prior to 101.

Re: 1921-P VAM 13A pix & question

Let me correct myself just rotated under the scope and both have a really fading line. First pi is when I did not see it second is rotated in the light. Your denticles look earlier than mine. Dennis, neither of my two recent VAM 13 acquisitions have the scratch. Have a few others of 13 and 13A that I can not verify presently.

1883-O VAM 33/33A

I just read the letter from Leroy to JR about the hub debris in 33A that was part of the discussion on Russ's submission. It appears Leroy said he was revising VAM 33. I did not see the actual revision text and it does not appear anything was changed on VAM 33 in VW listing nor does it state a revis...

Re: 1921-P VAM 26 vs 26A question

Well stated Tom. Are theses listed areas caused by the same mechanism as feed finger gouges? Dennis, if you send LVA the 26, 26A and your coin, what would you like to see happen? John B what would you like to see happen? I know LVA has the final word about this, but as senior VAMMERS and as a VAM co...

Re: First buffed reverse?

I did not have any pictures showing the raised metal bumps below tail feathers but not sure the bumps determine if the coin is a 1C3 stage.

Re: Die State

Ant, I was attempting to show at least knowing that the 16 obv was later than the 1C1 obv, similar to the 1C2-1C3-1J obverse progression. I have non-clashed PCGS 62DMPL and single clashed NGC 63PL 1C1's. From the photos I have the clashed version has a great deal of polishing going on the Reverse. W...
