Re: 91-S: Friday night fight

C3 reverse. First time I've noticed that scratch above the berry. Stars and her lip are unremarkable. Thanks for looking UB.

Re: 91-S: Friday night fight

Went thru all VAMs twice and ruled out everything. Wings, wreaths all clean. No cracks or gouges. No polishing lines. This one will be marked a 5 for now with a note to send to JB in the future. I thought the ribbon was pretty cool. Thanks for the prodding keilg1.

Re: 91-S: Friday night fight

Thanks keilg1. My new scope won't do FCPs. I didn't pay attention to the zoom levels. Sigh. Another will soon be on the way. More photo's. I think the lines under her ear are an interesting PuP.

91-S: Friday night fight

Plz help me understand. Vam 5. The lines around the cotton leaf above LIBERTY are an exact match. Her eye is totally different as the anomaly at the tip of her upper lid is very prominent. It's this that makes me think it's not a VAM 5. The "S" matches, as does the far date. There are two photos of ...

Short and Sweet

This was a good read for me this morning on a coin with very few VAMs. I have the VAM 6 (tilted micro D) and short blurbs like this with pictures make me want to pull it out and take another look. It's also nice to see they are filling in their price guide with values for some of the VAMs. Hopefully...

Looks like a PMD scratch to me.

Re: Help with date placement

You've exposed a bit of a conundrum in this hobby. Normal is a range more than a set distance. I looked at the 1900-P VAMs and it seems the near date is less than 2 denticles. The normal range seems to be 2.0ish-2.6ish. I've seen a lot of listings where I thought a date guide mixed in a near with th...

Re: OLD R & I Ratings Discontinued

It's also OK if it just disappears. If it has a nickname like scarface or extra hair, there's interest. I can use population reports for rarity. IMO there are more worthy tasks needing attention, such as format or broken links, to make a good site even better.

Re: Looking for help with an 1878-S identification

I focused on the engraved wing feather which I think is unique compared to many. That led me to the reverse of VAM 23 and/or 37 and I think the MM position matches also. I'm afraid that's the best I can do tonight. GL

Just a kudo

To whoever did the work on the 79 Morgan page. The way the visuals were presented in the wing-neck gap and ribbon guides helped me quickly identify the VAM 12. Love that format for the most common "clue" areas.

Re: Darkside-have you seen this gouge?

My wife says my military career stands in the way of my understanding things that aren't linear. I consider VAMing a visual concept and struggle when such things are presented as good, bad, secondary, etc but my eye says otherwise. Older dog; new hobby. Thanks again.

Re: Darkside-have you seen this gouge?

Thanks gents. I see the clash is in an "ignore" area although I can't wrap my mind around why a clash in one area is a god VAM yet another can be ignored. One step at a time I guess....

Darkside-have you seen this gouge?

1923P. Reviewed most if not all listings and got zilch. Other than some obverse scratches and cracks and a faint shoulder clash, it's what stands out most about this coin. TIA

It does. I would think the rationale and convincing would have preceded entering the comment. Thanks for taking the action.

1924 Bar D

So I got one in today but a comment entered in 2016 under VAM 1A2 has me a bit confused. "Doesn't exist as a separate listing"....does this mean just consider it a 1A? If so, why hasn't 1A2 been removed from the list?

Re: Help w/1923-S plz

Yes, fun and a bit exhausting. Like this 23-S, last nights challenge was on a 21-D Morgan that I haven't been able to ID for over a year. Finally it was the scribbles that tagged it as a 1EC. The die breaks are unique. Hopefully one day I'll figure out how to update the die break guide. Thanks for y...

Re: Help w/1923-S plz

I appreciate the feedback sir. What confuses me is why the heavy file lines on the right obv aren't mentioned. I'm not looking for a discovery piece but do file lines disappear quickly once the die is back in service?

Re: Help w/1923-S plz

Thanks. My best guess at this point is 1BQ. It has the Die 2 marker file lines but lacks some requisites such as shoulder spikes and "Above One" clash. The nose bridge counterclash is there and leaf clash above cap. Adding pics.
