Re: Long-nock confusion.

The manual change was made to get as many new dies into service as possible pending completion of a new reverse hub. The 7/8 dies had a similar purpose.

Re: Long-nock confusion.

The "long nock" was made by adding a short segment to the end of the arrow on individual dies. This task was likely given to Assistant Engraver William Key (who also made the IGWT logo). Some additions were perfectly made and others were a little tilted or too narrow. The lower photo shows an additi...

Re: 2021 Morgan, Value and Included as Set?

1. CCs are more valuable because they're CCs. And having been sold with a maximum of 10 per household instead of 3 means they got into fewer hands, so there are more hands that want/need to buy them on the secondary market. 2. I don't think they'll be regarded as a regular issue Morgan, but as a co...

Re: OT: Upheaval in the card world

Interesting and disappointing.
All I have from childhood is a small box with some unopened bubblegum packs from the 1950s. Hey! Maybe there's a famous Joe DiMaggio-Marilyn Monroe card in there. He had quite a batting average!

Re: USPS PCGS lost package

The Postmaster General has long-term business contacts who want to destroy the Postal Service and replace it with private businesses. He can only be expected to do things to hurt public service, just as he did last year before the election. Expect further disruptions, deteriorating security and dela...

What is a UNC Finish?
It's what you get from the bottom of a bad bottle of wine -- kind of a beat-up, musty, in the bag, but shiny feeling.

Same here. Ordered 2 "No problem" coins. Honestly, not expecting much based on the illustration.....too soft and mushy.

Yeah, a tough thing to explain as carry on luggage!
I could get it a leash, vest and call it a "Service Dog."

Re: 1924 peace, file-die with Die black

Early stage "starburst" die deterioration. Die pair should have been removed before this appeared on coins.
What is "die black?"

(Also, please reduce the image compression - it is creating artifacts that ruin details in your photos.)

Re: 1921 Peace photos as posted on PCGS

ANACS graded the coin MS64. The owner might bring it by at the ANA show for photos. Can anyone explain the 64 grade? I know it is futile to grade from a photo only. The original thread includes all the information about the ANACS coin that the owner has. There is no obvious reason for their grade o...

Re: Interesting question on prooflikes in general

Polishing that produces mirror-like fields lasts as long as it takes for the die to naturally deform and produce what we call "luster." Polishing and basining are repair actions for die faces and can be done at any part of the die life. The extent and aggressiveness of polishing determine if pre-rep...
