Nice Pickup!!

I found a specimen of this variety. This reverse is paired with a minor doubled die obverse, most prominent on the DI.
The die scratch on the leaves is a useful die marker, but not obvious enough to warrant a listing on its own. I am still studying the coin re: giving it a listing.

Minor die cracks are common on Peace dollars, and are not listed or listable unless dramatic or showing displacement. From what I see, yours is VAM 2.

Mine has this die crack, I suspect that they all do. In briefly looking at the Heritage archives, I did not find another.

If he was also selling coins, your should have looked thru his inventory, and offered him lowball prices even on "attributed" coins.
Sorry, but I have no patience with people like this. A respectful dealer will at least acknowledge what he/she doesn't know.

I've not seen this before. Most rim cuds are rare, and very under-appreciated.

I am leaning toward an EDS of VAM 1BU, the tipoff being the die scratch in R of LIBERTY. I want to look more closely at my available coins & photos before coming to a firm conclusion.

Offhand, I would say that it would be a tossup between 1922 VAM 2A "Earring" vs 1923D VAM 1AI rim cud.

As the reader can see, There are a lot of questions coming up about 1923S coins. I will focus my attention for now on this date, as there many more which likely deserve to be given VAM listings.
