Re: What!!? Why no bodybag?

Maybe they were simply out of little plastic bags; or, possibly much more attention was being paid to very profitable slabbing for bulk TV scammer purchases, rather than ordinary collector submissions. Money drives the attention of many "managers."

"2021" Morgan and Peace dollar imitations from Mint

Whenever the 2021 imitation Peace and Morgan silver dollars become available, I would appreciate members thoughts on the pieces. They will be briefly discussed in the next edition of the Peace dollar book and I'd like to include observations by active collectors of the series.

Thanks!

Excellent coin and good example of Barber's revised master dies.

For old glue and resin, gasoline works well. Then try the others.

Re: Vams for Ikes...

No. "VAM" refers to "VanAllen-Mallis" varieties for Morgan and Peace dollars. The originators did not make any definitions for Eisenhower dollars.

There is a group of active Ike dollar variety collectors, but their name escapes me at present.

Helps to confirm that O/CC coins were issued for circulation - that is, nothing special about them from the NO Mint's position.

Re: Question on this Morgan!

You are observing, asking meaningful questions, and accepting reasonable information for more experienced collectors. You might be a "rookie" but your approach is not "mistaken."

Interesting. Could both coins be shown with identical lighting and orientation?

Are you sure they
Didn’t make any?😎😉
I’ve also seen 1878 s rev 79 being offered for sale
Those are from the secret "Prescient Mint." It was first to use the "P" mintmark.

Reason there are no 1878-O Morgan dollars

This little letter gives a concise explanation for the absence of 1878-O silver dollars. [RG104 E-1 Box 113] Mint of the United States at New Orleans, LA. November 16, 1878 Hon. Michael Hahn, Superintendent U.S. Mint New Orleans, La. Sir: I have the honor to hand you herewith two tracings of the st...

Re: Die Adjustment Strike ?

Possibly hard planchet (poor annealing) at normal pressure. Common problem at NO Mint. Insufficient annealing capacity to balance HQ coinage demand.

how could the Y show if there was something on the die that obstructed it?
It wouldn't - or would be distorted. That's why post minting damage is suggested.

Re: One Cool Mint Error

Based on the photos, the odd defect is likely post mint damage – possibly intentional. The key to determining post mint versus strike through is the “Y” in Liberty. That part of the die is raised and strikes the planchet before the surrounding cotton. If something were on the planchet before strikin...

Re: O/T or NOT, I NEED SOME ECON 101

Sorry Flat-Chested, but you are entirely incorrect. You appear to be repeating dogma, not facts. If that presumption is correct, there's nothing more to be said; and this thread is just a waste of time.
