Based on your photo, I can't tell if there is or there is not a die gouge at O of DOLLAR on the reverse.
If the gouge not there, then it's not VAM-1D.
There are many other 81-S listing with the spike inside 1st 8.

Recently, Vam-mysterio had done a lot of die study which resulting many new 1879-S discoveries. One of them is 79S VAM-18B which shared rev die with 79S VAM-85 and with further collaborated study... also shared with 80S VAM-45A :o . Imo, this got to be the coolest news I've heard in a long time. Yes...

I recall about 10 plus years ago when you showed me one of them at LB coin show. Been chasing them ever since.

For all who enjoy 79s rev78, there is a new set on SSDC. In specific, the set contain 79S rev79 that shared Obverse die with the 79S rev78. Thank you Brent for adding this very challenging set.
