Re: On a 1902-O vam-17

Post pics if you can. The date placement, mint mark placement and whether it is a C4 or C4/c3 reverse will help. Also include anything that might be a PUP, at least in your eyes.

Re: Calling all 87-S VAMs-1B,4, & 6

Wayne, TY very much!!!! That seems to nail my question. If I have the progression correct, then the gouge/scratch would also be on the VAM-6. Your photos are awesome :D If anyone wants to send coins to Leroy to update the VAM-4/1B listings, feel free to do so. Would be nice to get confirmation on th...

Re: Calling all 87-S VAMs-1B,4, & 6

Just to clarify what I am looking for. The VAM listings have the three VAMs listed with a C3a reverse. This does not automatically mean they are the same. But that being said, they are the same reverse die on the three VAMs in this case. The VAM-1B is listed for the die gouge/scratch on eagle's righ...

Calling all 87-S VAMs-1B,4, & 6

If you have any VAM-4 or VAM-6 1887-S VAMs, can you check to see if your coin has the die gouge/scratch on eagle's right wing as shown in the VAM-1B VAM Plate? They may be hard to see or photograph. but they should be there.

Thanks in advance. Photos welcome.

Re: Phantom E and Possible E clashers

I am confused. The V45.9 is unclashed. So anything on it would not be an E clash. I thought you were looking for clashed coins that might have a phantom clashed E. Whatever you are doing, just have fun with it.

Re: Phantom E and Possible E clashers

The listing you see for the 02-O VAM-45A was revised from Brian Raines original listing based on what I thought was a clashed E. What is shown on the VAM-45A page as a possible clashed E actually exists on the unclashed version of the same die pair as the V45A, i.e., the V45.9. Thus what appears to ...

I have 4 02-O V45As and several 02-O V45.9s. What do you want to know?

Re: Phantom E and Possible E clashers

Not sure what you are trying to do, but the "phantom E' on the 02-O V45A is on the unclashed version, or 02-O VAM-45 Die Pair9. Thus it cannot be a clashed E, but could fit into a phantom category if one wanted to.

Re: VAMnesia setting in

Maybe not exactly the same thing, but in perusing online auction photos of a series I am very familiar with, I saw something in the auction photos of a coin that I did not recognize. So I went for it. Turned out it was photo poop.

Take a peek at VAM-13. Can't see the rim clearly to help with that.

Try the VAM-12 family. The "extra eyebrow" looks like PMD to me.

Re: 1904-O Series Question

There are several VAMs with known rotated dies in the 1904-O series, several over 15 degrees. I don't have any of them memorized, but maybe Kurt does and will come along.

Well, it is a C4/C3 reverse with a normal date placement. Maybe start there.

Buy the Holder, Not the Coin(s)

I picked this up off of GC just because I could. It just struck me as being off mainstream. The coins are a 1902-O VAM-51A and VAM-45 Die Pair 1. Probably paid too much for it. Thought I would share.
