Re: New 80-P Checkmark Variety

OK, I dug out my V41/V41A's and looked at 5 V41's and 7 V41A's and they ALL used the same reverse die. Since we were discussing the V41 obverse die at the stage with no die chips in the first "8" of the date and I have only one example at that stage, that is what I used for the photographs. So here ...

Re: New 80-P Checkmark Variety

I might be able to help, I have some V41/41A's and the discovery V79. I'm pretty sure I have a early V41 with no die chips in the first "8" but I don't remember it having a different reverse die than my other V41's in my collection. I think you may have a different die pair. I will be able to check ...

Re: A new look at a Common 1880-P VAM-21 and uncommon V-21A (Checkmark)

vampicker Thanks for the post and information! I'm glad you mentioned the strangeness of it appearing on later stages. This is something that I thought was very odd and have struggled to explain to myself. I have managed to find around 30 of these with some with some degree of a "7" visible. I don'...

Re: A new look at a Common 1880-P VAM-21 and uncommon V-21A (Checkmark)

Thanks for replying! There is a good chance that this may have been what you seen but I would love to think there is another undiscovered similar VNA out there. If your not sure this is a V21 or if anybody else would like to see die markers from these, I would be more then happy to post more picture...

Re: A new look at a Common 1880-P VAM-21 and uncommon V-21A

I would like to talk about a few of the areas. 8-v21(SCO)-(162190907239)-marked.jpg #1 is the checkmark that seems to show before the other points and is the most commonly seen part. #2 When this part is clearly visable, I called it strong in my n#otes. This example I called "very strong" because cl...

This is the late V21 SCO stage (with the original reverse die.) This is the best example that I have found.

A new look at a Common 1880-P VAM-21 and uncommon V-21A (Checkmark)

Hello! I would like to share some photos of the work I have following for the past 5 or so years on the 1880-P VAM-21/21A. I first noticed what appeared to be a slight checkmark on a V21 with a single clashed obverse. This started me down a long search for more and better examples. What I have come ...

Re: 1880-P VAM-1G and VAM-35/35A (1F) clarification?

Hi Gary, In my opinion they are different dies. Under my microscope, the doubling on the "0" in the date is noticeably different. The V1G shows much more doubling on the inside left of the "0" and the V35/V35A shows primarily most doubling on the inside right. Also, I have not been able to find any ...

Re: Checkmark mystery

Thanks everybody for the compliments on the photos! Now I wish I would have done a little cropping and post processing before I posted them but I just wanted to get them posted asap. It has been a few years since I took those photos so I can't 100% remember what I did to take them but I think I used...

Re: Checkmark mystery

If anybody is interested in the checkmarks on the 80-P V21/21A, I can try and find some of the photos I took. I have a small collection of that show the checkmark. I was saving them to send to LVA along with the V44 to see about getting them listed as checkmarks.

Re: Checkmark mystery

They are VERY hard to find! I've managed to find somewhere around 80 to 85 percent of the listed 80-P VAM's and I've found this is one of the toughest to find. These make V33A's seem easy to find.

I believe I might. Is it a 80-P VAM-44?
