VAM 81 isn't a Hit List 40 piece either. VAMs 50 and 76 are noted primarily for the shared obverse in the actual book. The 'Funky Feather' reverse was a bonus.

Bumping this post from the actual owner since there was speculation about it. I'd be interested if the group as a whole met his expectations at auction.

VAM 3. If the letter transfer from the clash is still present, 3A. There are many examples of this marriage with the clash polished down leaving a little lump by the neck that kinda looks like an Adam's Apple

That flat sheared off looking shelf along the front edge of the point of the neck is just about a textbook version of strike doubling. The other points on the piece all line up with roughly the same degree and direction. This is a good coin to keep as a reference piece for strike doubling on a Peace...

I think I had the discovery piece cross my desk shortly after it was listed. That was a long time ago, and I'm not sure VAM World even existed at the time. Certainly it was before I showed up here.

The VAM 45 you concluded looks correct. The die scratch that passes over the surface of TY is a good diagnostic. Doesn't come up often.

Agree with an AU reverse, but that doesn't help much with a grade. Playing with a picture, but I'm not picking up traces of obverse luster. I'd say XF 40 max. Looks fairly original too.

To be clear, we're talking about two stages of the same reverse die, not two separate dies. The scribble scratches match across all stages. I checked this against an example of VAM 1B5 in hand and the earlier stage plates.

It a VAM 18. But you've come across one of the defining examples of an 'evil mimic'.
