Re: A gift, a ‘pick, a TRU_T

Larry: The answer to "which one is the more rare to find?" is simple. It's the 1A1, because all of the letters in TRUST being present makes it easy to overlook. The SSDC registration total for 1A1 is 17, versus 39 for 1A2 – a difference that is actually a lot smaller than I would have guessed. But "...

A gift, a ‘pick, a TRU_T

The call came from a friend here on the boards: “Are you interested in a 1921-D TRU_T? An unattributed 63 just went up on eBay.” “Well of course. But aren’t you?” “I’ve bought a couple of coins lately, so I need to slow down for a while.” I found the listing quickly. I had worked with the seller bef...

Re: NGC VAM price less than non VAM?? REALLY

NGC, like everyone else, is allowed to make whatever VAM value guesses it wants. But don't assume those guesses are the same as market reality, or there is significant demand for a particular VAM.

(oops... data for wrong VAM removed)

Re: 1888 P Morgan with VAM-1B...and more?

I was told that PCGS will not do the work for me and that I have to find all of the VAM myself. Okay, what in H*ll am I paying for? Should I grade the coin as well? You were told correctly; PCGS does not make VAM attributions, you have to tell them what it is on the submission form. What we pay for...

Re: 1888 P Morgan with VAM-1B...and more?

Most already known VAMs have small features on them that aren't listed, and some have MANY things that aren't listed.
Everything you show is the normal clashing I would expect to see on VAM 1B... which was listed because it is clashed.

Re: Coin prices

Morgan prices have been on a tear pretty much all year long, especially for common and slightly better dates in modest Mint State grades. Some dates, like 1921-D, have gone berserk on a percentage basis. It's as though the definition of "cheap" has been increased up by 50% or more. I can't make any ...

To be clear here, the original post was asking if this thing had any chance of being a contemporary counterfeit

But John, the original post does not contain the word "contemporary".

Re: 1921-P VAM kill

For now, I will move 1BP to 1BN2 in the Registry. He did say it was the later state with breaks (which are generally listable). Yes he did say it's a later die state. But he didn't say anything about making a new listing. And hasn't he always been very clear that cracks don't constitute a VAM? And ...

Coin and holder look totally OK to me.
If you contact PCGS about the database issue they're going to want you to mail in the coin.

1921-P VAM kill

Received a handwritten note from LVA a few days ago, in reply to copies of his plate images I had sent showing that 1BN and 1BP are the same, and that 3GA and 107 are the same. Here is a transcript of what he sent [my typo corrections are inside brackets]: Aug. 22, 2021 [1921-P] 1BN, 1BP. Yes, has s...

That price includes the extra 2.5% buyer's fee for using a credit card. I don't think that was how the buyer paid.

Odd things on 1921-P D1s

The ridiculous number of different 1921-P Morgan VAMs – 452 so far – makes it easy to get lost in their sea of attribution features. Two reverse types (D1s account for 30% of the total and D2s for 70%) helps reduce the confusion, but inspection of many D1 coins has brought up other questions for me....

Even with the crappy photos it's easy to see this 1893-CC is a Chinese fake in a fake PCGS holder:
