I am having a hard time identifying the vam. Looks like an open two, there is nothing in the 8's, Appears to be slightly clashed. It appears to have something in the O but I'm not sure what vam? Any ideas?

There really is no sign of that type of hit on the coin at the s. I’ve looked at it under a microscope (not a picture taking one or I would have included). Any other thoughts?

That’s what I thought when I looked at it initially, but if you look closely the metal on the bottom of the s curves upward rather than downward and unless after mint the metal was heated to a point to move metal I don’t think a hit could ever do that. I think it could only happen at the mint.

I recently purchased an 1880-O and there is a very unusual detail in the S of the PLURBUS on the Obverse. The metal on the S curves upward rather than downward like the normal S, but still maintains the ghost outline of the normal S. It produces a fish like image. Can anyone tell me what is up with ...
