Re: Remberance of a dandy- late GENE Henry O/T KINDA

I want to see the Gene Henry stories. I thought so much of him. He was always really nice to me and didn't know me all that well. I had several hour long talks with him at Long Beach shows and bought several coins--but most of the time his prices were too high for me and I wasn't able to say to him ...

Re: Grade Opinions

I initially thought 63PL, but then just looking at marks, I thought 64PL, and I would have to see the coin in hand to go any higher. But one thing for sure, the die polish is a detractor and will be a factor in the grade to be sure. I can't tell if there is any cleaning, but it doesn't look like it.

Re: From the Wild

Speaking of filled dies, there is a really persistent 1880-P, that I have and have seen varying stages of the filling on auction results. Do we have a VAM number for the dies that I'm talking about.

Re: O/T FINALLY--PORNO Quarter

I don't want to be a fuddy-duddy, but there's a chance that coin is a counterfeit. I'm just looking at the pictures and I'm not convinced yet...

Re: Check this out!

I have a very similar coin. Mine is just a normal 1893-P with an added S. I also have an 1898-S with an altered date.

These are very neat coins...the only problem with this one is the base 1893 coin is also scarce, so you might need to pay $100+ for the coin.

Re: Picked up a 78 VAM 34

That coin is SO fresh! Normally, I would say it has the 62 look, but as original and fresh as that coin is, I like 63.

Really nice.

Re: 85p with MANY Threadlikes (BACK FROM LVA)

Did the person who put the coin into the 2x2 think this was a Proof coin? I see markings on the flip that say something like PF+63 and $3000.00...or is that an indication of the proof like nature of this coin and a price to keep people from throwing out silly low offers? I just found it all interest...

Agreed that this is a low and proper price. If the coin is a late die state, you are offering a really good deal.

Re: 1878-S VAM 2 found

It is really refreshing to see a post that has someone relatively new to VAMs that posts something like this and all of the posts from the members seem to be quite positive and not disconcerting to the new user. I love seeing the new interest and welcome you to the group!

Re: 1878 VAM44

I have to say I'm a little stunned that no one has thought to give this coin a bath and get the Au53 grade out of it. This coin has real meat on it.

If no one else wants to try, I guess I'll have to do the work to get the money back. I just thought someone would want the original coin.

Re: 1880 P VAM 33a "PMD"

It's an E. or at least some of one. Leroy needs to reinstate the VAM 33A. I don't understand what is happening there. I've seen 4 of these coins and there is no question this is a clashed E.

Re: VAM BOOK

There is no longer a current pricing guide for VAMs. We used to publish one and we are trying to set one up on the SSDC Site, but it is not yet in service.

Sorry, but if you need to know what something is worth, you may need to ask on the Buy Sell Trade discussion board.

We had a really great time at this "meat-n-greet"! This was one of the most enlightening nights in a long time for me, with regards to die progressions. The food was good but the camaraderie was excellent!

Anyone looking for a 78 VAM44 PCGS XF45?

I just acquired an 1878 VAM44 in PCGS 45 . I bought this coin for a reasonable price to resell and if you need the coin in your set, I may be able to help you... This coin is not a VAM 44A . It is a no clash 44... I have never figured out which of the two varieties is more difficult to find. Let's s...
