Re: 1921 D VAM 1AN Reinstatement ?

I thought VAM 1AN was already reinstated. I've seen both coins and was involved in their discoveries. I'm reinstating it now.

Re: 1880 VAM 56 exists

Looks like 56, 56A, and 56B are all still in the catalog as of December 2021. Alan, if you have pictures confirming the assertion that the 56A had the 56B break, I'll formally delist 56B.

Re: 1880 VAM 56 exists

Did Leroy actually eliminate VAM 56 or did someone just move it on VAMWorld? I'm away from home and can't check at the moment. Also, a comment on the VAM 56 page says they're from different reverses. Is this the case?

Re: Not Able to Add Pictures to a Post?

The attachment for the forum had a quota set at 5 GB. 26,354 attachments later, we've reached that. I increased the quota, so it should work now.

Can we take a moment to acknowledge just how cool this coin is?
Indeed, it is exceedingly cool, even without being flipped over between blows. The sword and flying fickle finger of fate made me reserve the 1571 spot in my prime number set for one, even if it's the 20 shilling piece.

Those are usually splotchier than this. It also looks like the basket prong at the top protected the coin from toning there.

The dies were reversed for 1921 Peace dollars. The obverse was the hammer die for these.

Slabs are not impervious to gasses. This one may have spent some time in a hostile environment, maybe intentionally, maybe not.

Re: 82 O/S Die question

There is no indication that these were not SF dies returned to Philadelphia. Reverse dies could be, and were, carried over from year to year at the branch mints.

Re: 1922 Peace D over D?

Looks like just a worn mint mark. I don't know of any convincing repunched mint marks for Peace dollars. There's a 27-S/S listed, but I haven't seen one and the pictures aren't clear. Ok I will get some better images, but you don't see the shelf between the two stamps in the current images? If you'...

Re: 1882 GSA Carson city grand snake history.

I can't wait to see this one. It will sell for Big Money, but not more than the 86 die cap brockage. 40-50K for a GSA CC 25% off-center feels right to me. Then again, if it's the only GSA off-center being sold into this market, 75K wouldn't surprise me
