1884-CC VAM 5...A?

Does anyone have record of an 1884-CC VAM 5 with neck clash and right wreath clash, or is that not notable?

I would call this VAM 8A EDS. VAM 8A refers to exactly one die pair, while VAM 8 may not. Referring to the coin as VAM 8A EDS removes ambiguity as to which die pair it is. It is not incorrect to call it VAM 8 LDS, but it may be ambiguous.
Thank you for clearing that up.

EDS vs LDS

Good Morning, VAMed out a 21-D. Followed the crack guide which lead me to the VAM 8A, flagged R. However, my coin does not have the triangular fill over the R, but does have 3 breaks though the denticles (among others), wing gouge and polishing lines, so definitely right die. Would this be a VAM 8 L...

Not sure if this crack will help, but here it is.

Re: 1896-P 14?

Thanks for the helpful responses. I have been experimenting with lenses lately and wasn't happy with detail loss on that configuration. The "big book" looks like a big help. I have noticed on some LVA plates they appear to have been printed on 3 hole paper and scanned but the work was phenomenal. I ...

Re: 1896-P with die scratches

I noticed there are no full coin images on the V38 VAM Page. Here they are from the discovery coin. @PacificWR could you drop these photos onto the page? Thanks in advance! 1896 V38 OB.jpg1896 V38 RV.jpg It is a done deal. The Wing Die gouges aren't part of the description. Wayne- do you want the H...

1896-P 14?

As there are no pictures and only a definition...

"Obverse III2 14 - 6 doubled above top loop as a dot on left and curved line joining top of loop and doubled slightly at bottom outside of lower loop"

Does this fit the bill... has a dot on left ?

Re: 1896-P with die scratches

Illusion... and why I study the brain. This schtuff fascinates me. Impossible to have the MM in that area of the coin if it was transferred somehow - clashing would be the only plausible explanation - and transfer would put it on the top of the obverse, not the bottom near the date. Besides, transf...

Re: Beveled Field Capped R

I also have an EDS Capped R and this thread made me look for the beveled field above the OF, which pop's on this pic.

It's probably only a AU55 and disregard the 18mm Planchet break, or regard it, it is cool!

Re: 1896-P with die scratches

Thanks All. I got this coin 6 months ago while searching for that 2nd 96-P 4B. Seems I'm always a day late but nice to know there are discoveries about still, and Jody got the cred. Believe I found a V-14 but there are no pics so that will go up next for review. Still think this looks like a O mint ...

1896-P with die scratches

Looking for some help. 1896-P, normal date. Reverse is covered in die scratches across both wings. Eyelid has small lashes, some scratches to cheek. No apparent date doubling but there seems to be a mm O above the 8 & 9 Please point me in the right direction, cause I aint seein it! Thanks in advance

Re: For Newbies: Beware of coins graded in Various slabs with irreputable names

Whatever happened to "buy the coin, not the holder"? If you trust a holder, from any slabbing service, you can be disappointed. Conversely, great coins can hide in holders also. While this type of post can be helpful to some, you need to know the coins. Totally agree, only gamble what you are willi...

Re: What's the difference between 1878 8tf V22B & C?

Thank's Mark. It is obvious that I may need to slow down and read the descriptions better. Re-reading it, I am good with the LDS Vam 22-A, I got hung up on thinking the clash began as a B but obviously, it did not. As far as the smooth wing, the reverse is DMPL if that helps, or close to it! Thanks ...

Re: What's the difference between 1878 8tf V22B & C?

Mark- What I was trying to convey is that the written description of both the 22 B&C have a die "chip" on the second star. The coin I have does not have the chip, but has the crack forming. It does have radial cracks on both front and back. Attached are the photos. I am only looking for clarificatio...

Re: What's the difference between 1878 8tf V22B & C?

Since the descriptions seem to hinge on the die chips and breaks, what would an 8TF 22_ be considered if the chip on Star 2 has not formed but has the (2) cracks that caused the chip and has crack stages of the rest of the stars/wing tips?
