Re: retained strike-thru scrap?

That's really cool. I like it. DO NOT POKE IT WITH A TOOTHPICK! Could be a piece of a detached lamination from the prior planchet that was struck through onto the next coin. Whatever it is, I like it!

Back from Leroy - 1923 S New VAM 1FF (Nov 13 thread Update with LFCPs)

This coin was the subject of a prior thread. The break on the wing was not enough, but the heavy file lines were. My first discovery since getting back in the game. My last discoveries were in 2010. I still haven't figured out the new site, so can someone please help out with setting up the new page?

Re: Back to VAMs

I recommend Crae Morton's Scribbles Guide as well. I am just recently back after an 8 year absence. I am thrilled that VW is still here and flourishing. I do miss some of the old guard, though.

Re: 1892-P VAM 3 v 3A Question

Thanks, John. There was reference to multiple die pairs making up both VAMs, so I was not sure about whether the change of the obverse die would make it a different number. Is this something that should go to Leroy?

1892-P VAM 3 v 3A Question

I have an 1892P with the 3A reverse, doubled outside upper wreath, clash with the neck line running up thru the n, but the obverse shows no sign on a clash (at all). The date position is the same, but there is no doubling on the date. There is very slight doubling on the first 2 left stars. Seems to...

The main (thick) gouges really look like edge reading, but I can't explain the perpendicular lines through it. I was hoping @Vampicker or @Messydesk might take a look and either confirm PMD or explain what it is.

Here is a magnified image showing the perpendicular lines.

Re: 1922 S Is this PMD or something else?

A reed hit was my first thought, but there appears to be file lines within the raised area that that run perpendicular to the gouges. That is what is confusing me at this point.

Looks like there might have been a double clash that was scrubbed.

1922 S Is this PMD or something else?

At first I thought that this was a hit from the edge of another coin, but it appears to be file lines/gouges. Any thoughts? @Messydesk and @Vampicker, I would love to hear your opinions on this. I am surprised that a lamination could survive through all that wear. I love stuff like this.

Sorry, Ant. That is not a G clash. Where the clash occurred on your coin, the G would be in the area of the middle of Liberty's neck.

Re: 1883-O VAM"38"... Final New Pics, and I'm Mailing it In to Get Checked...

Sorry, Ant, there is no G clash. The neck clash is under the n and does not reach the n, so no letter transfer.
