Re: 1884-CC VAM 4A help needed

Have a look at the definitions page. There are some clash overlays on the clashed dies page, link below.

Re: OT - Eagle from mint - spotty condition

OMG, they literally ran over your box! I thought you were kidding about that but that it had been mashed up but a USPS worker. The new boxes the latest coins come in are appalling. Cheap is insulting to the word cheap. All three of my holders arrived cracked and the plastic tray was ripped in one an...

Re: Trouble placing an 1883-O

Well that appears to be the same die pair that Nate sent in a few years ago and LVA called it VAM-1. I thought those pictures and notes were on the VAM 1 page, maybe someone took them off thinking that it was not important information or maybe I’m just mistaken on what was there. Nice pics though. ...

Re: Trouble placing an 1883-O

Found similar polishing in the wreath to VAM-15 but the mint mark doesn't look right. VAM-14 is the closest to the right mint mark. Also found some doubling in the Obverse legend and stars. Again not sure how much of this is relevant.

Trouble placing an 1883-O

I've got an 1883-O I just can't place. There is a fair amount of clashing but not reverse E sadly but there is obverse e and st clash. The neck clash looks like it's been polished away so not much help there. The m/m has a line through the bottom and is tilted left and doesn't match any of the liste...

1884-O VAM-51

I've got an 1884-O which I believe is a VAM-51 as it is the only listing for a round O doubled ear but some of the features don't jibe with the photos on the vam page. It has a doubled date, eye, profile, leaves and a few letters but these might not be enough to have been listed. It's also got more ...

1901-O VAM-77 not on obverse page

Not sure where this needs to go for site admin, but looks like VAM-77 isn't listed on the obverse page for 1901-O. Guess that's why it took me a while to find it,

Also VAM-67 is listed for slanted date and far slanted date.

Re: 1897-S VAM?

1897-S VAM-2. You have the spike under the serif of 1. I have 3 of these and all have the gouges/die polish lines in the field at the chin-neck. Yours is quite a late die state as it has die cracks - none of mine have any die cracks. Thanks, of all the things I noticed on my coin, that small spike ...

Re: 1897-S VAM? Part 2

I see what you are saying about the VAM-3 but your date seems to line up on the left edge of the 3rd denticle while the VAM-3A lines up in the gap between 2nd and 3rd by the look of it. Also does your 7 look tilted?

Re: 1896-O oval O mystery coin

I agree that educating yourself is key but until I knew of vamming ( only six months ago) I knew nothing about varieties, just mint marks and dates. I could have bought a contemporary counterfeit and been none the wiser till farther down the road. If I was never interested in varieties and just want...

Re: 1896-O oval O mystery coin

I was thinking along the lines of delist all of these, don't make them collectable. They are fake, end of story. VAMs get killed on a regular basis so why couldn't it not be done with these. Stop using the mercury and the leaded gasoline. Either that or start VAMing Chinese fakes. Double standards i...

Re: 1896-O oval O mystery coin

Contemporary or modern either way it's counterfeit, so why are there listed "contemporary counterfeits"? There are almost 40 fake coins that have been VAMed and several in the top 100. I can't think of many hobbies where credence is given to fake items, regardless of when they were faked. I can see ...
