1883 O VAM 1C1 or 1C2?

Cherrypicked this beauty on the cheap from the bay. I was thinking it to be the VAM 1C2 but has only the single clash on the eagle's right wing. I can faintly see a "M" clash on reverse above "D" in God but my question is, Is it a 1C1 or 1C2? Does it have to be double clashed to be the 1C2, since on...

Re: Just a Sexy 37A1...

Nice looking 37A1! That looks even better than my PCGS 65 37A1. Also, a question. I seem to remember someone saying that the 37A1, or was it A2, was a big deal or something a few years ago. A little before my time.. It was one of the coins heavily talked about for the year. Maybe early teens or late...

Re: In need of 83-O expert... New pair?

It looks to be a C3a reverse. With so many 83-O VAMs without pics, it might be more difficult to attribute. This one might be up to the experts.

Re: UNICORN CHIMAERA

Lee, it was a twofer on my first try with Mhomei & you helping me. I look at my 1880 O VAM 78 as my first discovery with the 1N3 as my second. I've included the pic of the letter from Leroy.

Re: UNICORN CHIMAERA

Can't wait to read the article Roger. I have the 2016 1N3 discovery that Leroy listed when he separated the 1N into the 1N1, 1N2 & 1N3. If you need to examine my 1N3, your are welcome to it.

Would there be a displaced field break on the obverse under the date numbers 21?

Very Nice!
Have you VAMmed it yet?
Do I see slight 5-10 degree die rotation or am I just not looking at it correctly?

Re: My First Try at Conservation

Thanks for sharing Kurt. I am also not trying to get higher grades (but if that happens, great!) I am looking at the eye appeal as well. Looks like you had some amazing results. Vamhelsing, I only get my coins graded about once a year but will let you know when that time comes what grades came out o...

OT: Origin of the $ sign

Find your favorite cold beverage & sit down and learn a little history on the $ sign.
I found this video of a lecture given in 1991 by Eric Newman.

Re: My First Try at Conservation

Here is my second attempt at conserving a 1888-O VAM 4 Hot Lips. It is very hard to find in XF 45 and above grade without paying much moolaa for it. I did not pay very much for this one, so I took a shot at it. I was hoping for a little more detail under that dirt but to me it looks like it may have...

Awesome looking 8 reales with that nasty die break. WOW!
Some historians believe the ribbons wrapping the pillars on the 8 reales is where the dollar sign $ comes from.

Re: 1900P new variety

I don't know about the VAM, but in order to keep your pictures upright, you have to edit them. It is because the pic is not square but more like a rectangle from using your phone. If you download them in your computer, you then can use a photo edit program and crop them to be more square. Save them ...
