Re: An E Exercise...

I totally understand trying for this one.
I have only one question.
Does it have the obverse clash above the cap?

Re: Leroy Worthy?

THANKS for all the opinions. From the mintmark to the rim, the crack or break is a raised area. Not sure if that would be considered "displacement". It is very hard to take pic of it but when I look through my loop, it shows up well. If others have this VAM, it would be great to see if this crack/br...

Leroy Worthy?

I recently bought a NGC XF45 1899 O VAM 5 for my broken mintmark set. It is in a Gene Henry Legacy Collection holder. Really cool by the way. What surprised me was the break that extends through the mintmark and extends to the rim of the coin. It is a break for it is raised as shown in the photo. It...

Re: OT, a Bunnies riddle.

Washington did not belong to any political party
Being a U.S. history weenie I am, Washington was associated with the Federalist party after the first presidency election. During the first election for President, there were no parties yet.

Re: 'Acidic' collection

This should help in learning about acid dies. I copied and pasted the article Mr. VanAllen written in the VAM-E in May 2011. INTERMEDIATE May 24, 2011 Volume 8, Issue 10 Acid Treated Dies at San Francisco by Leroy Van Allen Another chapter has recently been added to the modification of the 1878-S ob...

Re: 1883-cc Clashed Die Break Cap?

This one is in the Broken Branch Mintmark Set. I've been looking to cherry pick one of these but I just haven't pulled the trigger yet. The VAM 5D is harder to come by since it has a die break at the cap and has multiple clashes and cracks throughout. Nice looker there. Is that a MS63?

Re: Need help with VOTW

Thank to Wayne (PacificWR) posted it for me.
Thanks Chief for the comment.
I have this 1888 O VAM 31 in a ANACS MS61 and is one of my favs. There is a MS63 floating for sale out there but with a high price tag that I can't afford.

Re: 1889 0 vam 20A and 20B

Well, the 20A is the "E" reverse & is highly prized in higher grades than AU 50 and is the most sought after compared to the 20B which is the worn out die of 20A without the "E" reverse. Hence, why you do not see the 20B in the VV15 because it is not highly sought after and is not on any major lists.

Re: Grade Opinions Wanted

Raybob, I wished I could have said I picked it but I did not. It is attributed and graded and bought it for a premium but I think I paid a fair price. When I saw this VAM back before I was a VAM collector (90's), I said "WOW that is cool Peace Dollar" and I bought it. That one ended up grading "clea...
