Re: 1921-P VAM 13A pix & question

I went back and re-checked my five examples of 13A. Some fiddles with lighting and angles showed remnants of that scratch on two examples (both MS, in holders). The other three do not show the scratch.

The die chips in the ear show up in all examples.

I don't see it on any of my examples. Must be VEDS.

Re: I need help, with my 1887

I have a 27/27A that shows strong clash marks and a barely - and I mean barely - visible "n". It does have the crack through the "O" in DOLLAR. Mine does not have the broken "G" in "God" shown in the photo below.

Does the 1900 appear to have light wear? The luster of the fields looks like that of a circ.
It is definitely not MS, although who knows if this is the coin the holder was prepared for.

Re: Fred Flintstone Slab

Here's a really old holder from the Coin Rarities Online archive . I never got to see it in hand, but I'd be curious as to the composition of the plastic part, as that might be the best way to date it. Plastic or maybe mica? The spacing and alignment of the letters is interesting. The 'l' seems to ...

It is a neat find. How did you come across it?
It was a 'buy-it-now' on the Bay.

Interesting. I'd put it at mid 80s. That font wasn't around until about 1984, and the software to make the label was becoming popular within a couple years on early Macintosh computers.
Good call on the old Macintosh font.

Any kind of markings on it?
It looks like a near, low date. Or a slanted date. Or a near, low, slanted date.

Anyone know the history of this kind of "grading" and "encapsulation"?

Thanks for looking!
It's in a PCGS-40 holder with a CAC sticker, so an added mint mark seems extremely unlikely.

Morgan 1921-P VAM-105 Scribbles

VAM-105 has a tripled cap, some doubled/tripled obverse motto letters, but it is reported without scribbles at the eagle's right leg. I have found what I think to be a VAM-105 with some very faint scribbles, although it lacks the diagonal scratch between the cotton and wheat leaves: WIN_20191005_08_...

Re: SSDC Registry scores rant

Thanks to the help of fellow 1921-P Morgan nuts here at VAMworld, I was recently able to add another coin to my SSDC 1921-P date set: a late die state VAM 1AG in MS63. Yippee! :D Except, after I added it I was shocked to see it had the highest score value (504 points) of any coin in my 1921-P set –...

Re: D1 1921-P help needed

All of the cracks on the coin are pictured above in this thread. Not all of them will show up on LFCPs, but I will shoot and post photos on Tuesday. My example shows both of the wreath cracks but nothing in the reverse letters. The obverse of mine has two very faint cracks, one from the 7th left st...

Re: D1 1921-P help needed

My coin matches all of the additional shots except the scratches below "In".

Is there a slight beveling of the field above "OF"?

I checked 1T and 7. No luck.

Re: D1 1921-P help needed

The only thing I've been able to match up is that the two 'pronged' scribbles on the right side of the toe look kinda-sorta like VAM-1AG (as does the almost vertical line on the left side of the toe), but I don't have any examples of 1AG and the other markers listed on the page are fairly light die ...

I've got one of these in my "I don't know what it is" box (although not in as good a shape as yours).

Re: 1879-P Threadlike Impression on Wing

Thanks Mark, very helpful.

My example looks to be VAM-72. Doubled cap, scratch in front of the ear, etc. It also shows evidence of a die clash on the reverse (but not on the obverse).

I have a few more 79-Ps to work through. I'll let you know if I find anything interesting.

Thanks again.
