Morgan 1921-P VAM-59A

I recently obtained two specimens of 1921-P VAM-59A, with a dot above the "O" in DOLLAR (Note that the 59A page description says "No Dot Above O..."). The dots are pretty distinctive: WIN_20200408_10_16_31_Pro.jpg WIN_20200408_10_16_51_Pro.jpg Note, though, that both dots have a "divot" below the do...

I know… the title is an oxymoron. Just about any 1921-P set is pretty nerdly.
Maybe more redundant than oxymoronic, since any 1921-P is, by definition, nerdly.

Great work!

Morgan 1921-P VAM-3GO VLDS

Many of the examples of Morgan 21 VAMs in my Work In Progress box have a scribbles area wiped clean. This particular example had die cracks running from the "R" in DOLLAR to the first right wreath segment, and another running from the fifth right wreath segment, through the eagle's left wing, and th...

Morgan 1921 VAM-77 = VAM-69A

The hallmark of VAM-69A is the evidence of a pitted die between the "S" of STATES and the "O" of OF. Other markers include tripled left stars, doubled AMERICA, and a die scratch extending from the middle of the second "L" in DOLLAR down toward the denticles. In contrast, VAM-77 has quadrupled Stars,...

Re: Morgan 1921 D1 Reverse Right Ribbon

I have set up a database to help try to understand this feature (the database includes the right ribbon arc, along with whether the line under the last "T" in TRUST is present, along with a count of the necklace segments. The "Yes" column entries have the line below the right ribbon, the "No" do not...

Yes, that is a common thing on D1s.
I'll print out your ribbon list, compare with my inventory, and see what else I can maybe add to your research findings.
Thanks. We can compare notes later.

You can add 1AE to the list.

Re: Morgan 1921 D1 Reverse Right Ribbon

Thanks. There is plenty of free time, now, to engage in the minutiae of 1921 Morgan VAMs! I cherry picked the list from encapsulated examples I have on hand. I will probably (slowly!) look through non-encapsulated examples eventually. I did go back and check all the examples in my list and all show ...

Morgan 1921 D1 Reverse Right Ribbon

Several 1921-P D1 reverse VAMs show an arcing line below the right ribbon. For example the pages for 1AB, 1AJ, and 1BF all show or comment on this line below the ribbon. The line looks like this on VAM-1BN (the page does not mention this line): WIN_20200328_10_57_15_Pro.jpg I made a very non-scienti...

Morgan 1921-P VAM-3GK1

Re: Morgan 1921-P VAM-40 = VAM-55

I have 40A and 55A, but not 40 and 55. :( These are different die pairs from both 40 and 55, so it seems. Edit: I see 55 and 55A were a "twofer" listing. I guess the question remains as to whether the VAM 40 discovery coin has the same reverse as 55 or 55A. Agree on 40 and 40A. The whole doubled-tr...

Morgan 1921-P VAM-40 = VAM-55

I was looking through the D1 pages and noticed that the photo on the VAM-40 page showed identical stars and cracks to the photo shown on the VAM-55 page.

My 55 looks similar.

Re: Morgan 1921-D Can't Match Scribbles

Wow, thanks for the quick response. There is the beginning of the crack extending from the "M" over the "A" to the denticles. But nothing like the break depicted in 1L1. And no scribbles photos on any of the 1L pages. So this is a VEDS of the 1L series. Perhaps it should be known as 1L0.5! Thanks ag...
