Morgan 1921-P VAM-101

I have examples of what I have been calling very LDS VAM-101 that have virtually no scribbles. These examples have polishing lines on the neck, and the lines in the "R" of LIBERTY seems to match up: WIN_20200505_11_22_17_Pro.jpg WIN_20200505_11_23_48_Pro.jpg There is a scratch from the upper cotton ...

Morgan 1921-D VAM-1BW Die Chip Wing Tip

I ran this thing through the scribbles page numerous times without success. I love the "lashes" in front of the eyeball! Hopefully they are something Mitch has seen before.
I hadn't noticed them until Mitch asked about markers. They really are distinctive.

The 21-S VAMs are a tough bunch!

Re: Morgan 1921-S Crack

Not really any scribbles, and the coin has been worked over pretty well: WIN_20200502_13_16_02_Pro.jpg It has evidence of file/polish lines on both the obverse and reverse. There is an interesting curved line at the "n" in "In" and some strong file lines at the eye and forehead: WIN_20200502_13_15_0...

Morgan 1921-S Crack

Does anyone recognize this crack?

Re: 1921 P.VAM - 3AW1

My only example of 3AW1 is not very pretty, but it does show the strong horizontal lines in the upper tail feathers. WIN_20200429_16_10_57_Pro.jpg Mine does not show a dot, although the coin is fairly well worn. WIN_20200429_16_13_54_Pro.jpg What you show as a dot does not appear to be in the same l...

Morgan 1921-P VAM-3N

This is a very EDS example that is nearly crack/pit free. There is just the barest hint of die pitting on the left side of the "U". WIN_20200428_13_55_04_Pro.jpg This example has a beautiful/tragic strike through that obliterates the arrow feathers and takes some of the olive branch, some of the oli...

Morgan 1921-P VAM-3HF

I had a hard time with this one. My pattern matching skills were not up to snuff, but I finally noticed the three parallel lines in the northwest corner of the main scribbles area matched 3HF. WIN_20200426_15_21_26_Pro.jpg My example has some interesting cracks, especially the one from the first lef...

Re: Morgan 1921-P VAM-3EF

I had no examples of 3EF until this one, and only one example of what I called 3GI. My example of 3GI has the obverse and reverse scratches you show, and also shows the "A" gouge. It also has what I assume is die pitting on the first right wreath segment. Does you EDS example show any evidence of di...

Re: Morgan 1921-P VAM-3EF

Dennis, Mine has the faintest hint of the scratches to the right of the initial. The scratch to the left of the bow is there, but not as strong. Inside the bow the details you show are there in the bow of mine. The strongest of the polishing marks on the top left berry cluster are there on mine. And...

Morgan 1921-P VAM-3EF

I finally figured this one out. Not much in the way of scribbles: WIN_20200424_11_01_31_Pro.jpg But there was this helpful dot between the neck and left wing. WIN_20200424_11_01_53_Pro.jpg This looks to be a fairly LDS example, with a crack running from the first right wreath segment through the rig...

Re: Morgan 1921-P VAM-116

Very helpful. Mine shows nearly all of those markers, although a bit worn out. The scratch in the right wing is, as you say, tricky to see. The only one I cannot confirm on my example is the bow, and mine is simply too worn out. I did not notice the cracks, but all the ones you show are on my coin. ...

Yes about the LDS. Mine looks like it came from very worn-out dies.

Morgan 1921-P VAM-116

I have this rather bland coin that I have run out to potentially VAM-116. It has doubled upper hair and profile, and the scratches in the "R" in LIBERTY seem to match those on the attribution page. Re: 1921-p Strike Thru

That's VAM 3CN So the bonnet crack, does that just make mine a later die state than pictured ??? As for CN The eye scratches are there. The Line in bow that the reverse picture arrows is not. The yellow box shown on the first pup picture is not on my coin. Scratches are pretty darn close … if not e...

I'm beginning to appreciate how much lighting angle changes things, especially with worn dies.

Morgan 1921-P VAM-108

I had three of these floating around in my "Work In Progress" box for quite a while. The scribbles were meager, but two arcs on the abdominal segment just above the upper tail feathers were consistent across all three examples. I could never make a match with examples on the scribbles pages, however...

The description on the VAMworld page is simply wrong.
VAM 59 (my discovery) does not have a dot... I suspect a carryover error was made in the creation of the new page and the updating of the old page.
That is what I figured.

Kind of an unusual 1921 dot, don't you think?
