Re: Who else is growing a Quarantine Beard?...
Alan,
This is what happens when you keep looking for varieties for years, that have pictures associated with them but don't seem to exist.
Its like a bird who has forgot where its nest with the chicks is, and keeps finding "empty nests".

Re: Who else is growing a Quarantine Beard?...
I had a head start ,on the top side, towards the end of 2016 I said f-it. Haven’t started the tres hombres beard yet. At least still working, considered essential to DHS. Odd my son in law sells desks and is considered essential at the local level.

Re: Is this a 1921-P VAM 3AB ?
There appears to be a small gouge between the denticles at wing tip on plate photo but also appears like yours is earlier than the plate photo so it it may have happened after yours was struck if it is not on your coin.

Re: Recognize these 21-D scribbles
I think it may be a VAM 16. Some of the scribbles and mm position appear to match, and LVA obv description is a match, with the exception the right starts are all lightly doubled or tripled towards rim.

Reminds me of what some very old varnishes look like on wood, although the scale is much different. I wonder if there is a thin film of something on the coin.

Interesting remnant and question
This seems interesting that it never broke off. Really nice PL coin that had just a few really hard scrapes. This one is metal pushed up into a spike. Question is the brown stuff. I see small patches of this in the fields and is sunken and mostly small irregular shapes that appear to me like etched ...

Recognize these 21-D scribbles
Obverse appears to match VAM-7, however reverse is crack free with over polished left wing and scribbles I cannot match.

Re: Morgan Grading Question
I acquired this raw and the thing that stood out for me was how clean the fields are and the over all appearance. I thought surely a MS65. The first pictures were from my old iPhone and these are from my Nikon. Not sure if the second set is any better after reduction in size. Have always had trouble...

Re: 1922-D VAM 2X
Have not seen this one before. It’s interesting how the design creates weak points in the die that cause breaks to occur in some of the same or nerarly the same locations like the Y in Liberty.
Does that break go all the way across to the forehead from Y?

The breaks on the Peace Dollars are fun to look for. I like the way breaks look on Peace Dollars, more so than Morgans.

Morgan Grading Question
I was looking through ANA grading standards for Morgan’s and I did not see any mention of weak strike consideration. I was wondering if any of the grading companies take into consideration weak strikes when grading? Does it matter if the date mm is typically weak compared to a date that is not typic...

Reminds me of that double struck picture a while back. I suppose strike doubling and double struck are cousins.

Always good to know the correct terminology. I was thinking bun, but it appears to be apex or crown?
