Leroy has told me that the supplement photos are copyrighted and I could not copy them to VW.

At one time the university I attended required all engineering student to take drafting. One of the students was having difficulty visualizing depth. I held up a simple eraser and asked if he could visualize the square that represented the surface of the eraser and he said yes. I then asked if he co...

Cracks Peace vs Morgan

I recently acquired this Peace Dollar 1923-P because I noticed all these small cracks in the devices. I have not figured out the VAM yet but when looking through the 23's several have significant breaks in the details. Maybe I am wrong but it seems like Peace dollars have many more breaks in the dev...

Ant,

Are you talking about like the difference in how these two pictures look from polishing around the leaf?

Ant, I am going to try one more thing and I hope you can visualize this. The B and D on the coin is raised so that means that in the die the B and the D are sunk into the die (we call this incuse). Stay with me now, they are sunk in the die. Now imagine two coffee mugs made out of clay where the par...

Not sure what is on your B, picture is not clear enough. But Loren’s coin is simply hits from another coin on that B.

So yes I am saying that there is not any letter transfer.

Exactly, Light bouncing off the edges in bottom of inner loop. Here is the area you thought was an S and 5. Looks like a p to me on mine but it is just small scratches and possibly some grease on the die. Much like looking at clouds you can imagine just about anything. When you have a clashed letter...

There may be a hit there but what you are seeing is a light reflection. When i pulled my 38s I was seeing the same thing on some of them. The inner loop of the mm is sl...

If it is on two coins it will be on all or some of the VAM 38s depending on die wear/usage and if it was from polishing, clashing, etc. But again, IS IT LISTABLE, as defined by Leroy? Read Attribution 101. Why do you continue to post all those pictures? Are you wanting someone to confirm something w...

Ant, Again exact things you may see on multiple coins of The same die pair, If not listable, are just markers. Typically when we find a couple markers on a Particular VAM, it is enough to ID it. Many times the VAM description is enough to ID it. Many of your photos seem to show PMD in the same place...

Re: 1883-O... Still Can't Figure This Out...

This one is tough because it has some attributes that change over time. So here is the thing, die change with use. The minor doubling inside and outside the date change with die use. Think about how a hammer head looks after years of use. The die are a hammer and anvil with a planchet in between mos...

Re: 1883-O new Partial E location!... PLEASE SEE NEW PICTURES!!

Look at the full coin picture of VAM 38 page. Read very carefully the description that Leroy states. Then look at those things on you coin. You should be able to see the same things on your coin. There is a die scratch in the foot of the L in Liberty that appears to match your pictures.

Re: Edge of an E?

Alan, I had not planned on sending this in even if folks thought this might be an edge as I called it. It just is too weak for listing in my opinion and probably Leroy’s also. I had to squeeze the heck out of this coin just to get the neck clash to pop out. I would like to examine other coins if thi...

Re: Edge of an E?

Doug, Here is one of the clashes from the neck-chin. As you can see there are at least two clashes right of eagle. This is the only clash of the neck-chin I can see and is one set of rays left and down from the area I was pointing out as the letter position. It is interesting that the stronger of th...

Re: Edge of an E?

John and John the crusher of dreams! I think it sunk in that the jaw and neck should be stronger than the E clash, key word sunk. The neck and jaw clash is there but weak in the next set of rays to the left and appears to be the earlier clash event based on the clash strengths on the eagles shoulder...

Re: Edge of an E?

Side by Side of 22 S 1R and 24 P 1D. Angles look and location look very similar based on the small difference in rotation of the clashes on each of the varieties.
