Well the map of 1866 in LOC, 2 years after statehood, shows the name to be Carson City.

Used in a sentence “ The City of Carson, Nevada”....

Carson City is what we are used to. Language from the past is much different than the grammar that is common these days that I am certainly guilty of.

Harry, I think the top feather just got trimmed a bit close.

Hopefully the last picture will nail it for some.

The wing does tell part of the story, but not 26.

A couple more should seal the deal.

Alan, Good question. I think it’s a C3. Been polished a bit. Whoever cut this did a pretty careful job. Of course my lighting blows up right on sweet spot, it is smooth all the way down from top of berry. Don’t see the ledge with C4/C3

Hey Kenny, sure it’s a 1886, and fairly confident of mint. Here’s another clue.

Saw this and had to have it. My father always used a money clip so reminded me of him. I think I was able to VAM this in a few minutes, testament to this site. Not much stands out on this one. PL like fields, three jump rope scratches in PLUR, some beveled field under top of 2 in date.

I looked for this earlier die stage for a while but have not found it. Is it scarce?

Dennis thanks for sharing and very interesting. What would you say is the driving force behind large increases in listed values of certain coins? I understand if new hoards of a date/mm come to market which can drive the price down, but what is driving it up? Is overall demand up for certain coins. ...

I don’t recall seeing one on a Peace Dollar, other than the extra berry on 26-S.

I was looking at a new acquisition and noticed that it had craters throughout the obverse details, at least one of those craters had a raised dot in the crater.

Interesting, piece of history. I have to say the first thing that came to mind was the shape and then a Girl Scout cookie box emblem.
