Re: New 88-S variety

JR. Look closely. I see the crack on Fogies. Just not as strong and obscured by scuffing. I'm thinking his looks like a later stage than yours with more subsequent polishing to remove crack maybe?

Re: struck through?

Slag mark. Its from the slag (impurities) in the alloy when being melted that isnt completely removed. It gets "baked into the cake" of the metal so to speak

Re: Baltimore show report

Sweet scores rob. Nice subtle Coneheads reference too! I found an 82o 38b (and 17b too) at long beach as well but in 63. And those AU PL ANACS coins are neat. Mine is an au55 PL DC! (A 99s iirc without looking) and sweet hit on the eds scarface even if it is an h2. And a 22a in raw BU hit is always ...

I'm having trouble reading the letter. Is that due to the quality of the scan?

Re: O/T

Oh, I fully agree. PCI inserts tone silver and especially 999 in a wild but predictable pattern that is anything but atypical and also appears as if its not follow the progression spectrum. It is, it just doesn't subtly graduate from stage to stage as most toning does. If we didn't know exactly what...

Re: O/T

Search for PCI toned silver eagles. They bring very strong premiums. More if still in the PCI holver but still strong in top 3 too as collectors of them know that you eventually have to cross them to hault the progression and the look is so distinct that there really is very little chance of confusi...

Re: O/T

Looks like somewhat A-typical PCI toning. The question is, were PCI inserts toning coins at the same time the blue label was in use in the 90s. If so, it was probably originally slabbed in the mid 90s by PCI then crossed to PCGS once the color matured which can happen VERY fast in a PCI holder.

O/T.. Its not a VAM 1!!!

So I was at my barber shop today and I feel like ive been looking at and studying the rev die scratch on the Scarface for years at the expense of ever turning the coin over. Why I've missed this sign all these years I have no idea   And yes, I immediately tried to buy it but to no avail :...

Re: 1886-P help needed

This is gonna cause some confusion lol. I thought you were vampicker for a minute until I read the post. I discovered the 1n1 & 1n2. The 1n2 I found first and was listed for the new pairing and die breaks. Then a few weeks later I found the 1n1 eds (or maybe mds now?) and had it listed without the b...

Re: O/T... Who Knew About this?!

My thoughts exactly. I've had one opportunity to look at about a dozen toners directly from a recently unsealed bag. They were all neon monsters to varying degrees with 2 being true mega monsters. It was an awesome experience. JR, I guess Jeff doesn't think that at least one bag should be auctioned ...
