Re: 1884-o Pics 4 Page.... Full, No-Plate Zombie

Maybe no forearm notch, but you do warrant a laughing skull. In a practical sense, I'm betting this is stuck in the zombie hole for now. Sweet! And thanks for the guidance in highlighting this issue JR. Monday's aren't typically this productive  messydesk , wanna maybe put something along the ...

Re: 1884-o Pics 4 Page.... Full, No-Plate Zombie

Yeah, the listings in the 4th edition have identical nomenclature with no explanation of how they were supposed to be different. Even the revised description sounds pretty much the same. Betting VAM 36 seems like it's a zombie because it really is just laying there dead and empty, just waiting to e...

Re: 1884-o Pics 4 Page.... Full, No-Plate Zombie

VAM 4 makes sense. I'm away from my VAM book at the moment, but one thing that struck me odd was the III2 19 designation for the VAM 4 obverse die, where I expected it to be III2 3, like VAMs 11 and 36. If VAM4 is III2 3 in the book, then it seems odd that VAM 36 was ever listed at all with nothing...

Re: 1884-o Pics 4 Page.... Full, No-Plate Zombie

Are you sure this isn't a VAM 4? Overlapping reeding? Damn, I've been crushed! Kinda feels good actually. Its been a while  So, now I ask, did i get the mint mark matching incorrect or does the v4 & v36 share the same rev? Or, could the v36 actually be a v4? Fogie doesn't have a 36 which tells...

1884-o Pics 4 Page.... Full, No-Plate Zombie

Hey guys, so it looks like I have a v36 here going by the text description which is a full Zombie without a single plate even. Appears to be spot on. If vampicker or messydesk can confirm will you make the page purdy PacificWR thanks! There's a ton more going on than the listing suggests. From the p...

Should we just remove them from all documentation to remove the confusion?
I would think that's an executive level decision only Leroy could make.

Re: 1878 7/8TF newbie needs help with first vam

Nice quality of the pics! You'll fit in well here. Most coins you need help on just post what's called LFCP's (Large Full Coin Pics) which are basically the first 2 pics you posted, a closeup of the date like you did and one of the mint mark. Then others here will ask for other specific areas if we ...

Re: O/T... Cool Newp... WWII WLH Dogtag!

Chris, that isn't a hole that broke out. My father was a Naval Reservist that served on active duty in the Pacific theater of operations in WWII. It happens. Dog tags get caught on things and get pulled off and lost in the heat of the moment. If they didn't, they wouldn't come with breakaway chains...

If he got caught wearing it, he was out of uniform!... Protocal was just that. A civilian knew no difference. If you were active duty, during war, you knew the rules. Girls and civies were fair game. It's a nice piece, I'm sure it served him well(That is to say, got him pieces of something el...

Re: O/T... Cool Newp... WWII WLH Dogtag!

This is a nice token, but. Roger is in the Navel Resrve. He would have had 'dog tags' issued to him even during war time. Those would have been his 'only' US ID tags. This item is something he or a loved one had made up. In combat, he would have worn dog tags, not a token of a halve dollar around h...

O/T... Cool Newp... WWII WLH Dogtag!

How cool is this guys? Saw it for $50 bucks and had to reflex-pop. Not even sure its worth that but it was one of those relatively cheap "just posted and wanted to get it before someone else did" type thing. Anywho, I also figured I'd give it a go on trying to find and get in contact with a grandson...

looks like vam 24 to me. sorry about anyone taking so long. i assumed someone else would get it. Thanks Brian, but whats the difference between 24 & 25. Mine had the metal in 2 on the 25 page and also the same exact metal in the opening of the mint mark on the 25 page. Very similar to the v24 page ...

Re: JR may not like me.

78-CC VAM 6, 1st C roughly centered under the bow knot, while the 2nd crushes into the right ribbon. This reverse is unique to this variety. The VAM 17 has the only mintmark position that is even close. Wow. I stand corrected. That first C looks like an S and the second C is darn near imperceptible...
