Re: Morgan Grading Question

It used to be that a weak strike would limit a Morgan to 64 tops but in recent years they seem to be giving a bit of leeway and giving 5 & 6 gem grades to weak strikes. Think they're still limiting high gem tho unless it's just a hint of weakness or very typical for year/mint

1921-P... v3CA1... LFCP's for page

Hey PacificWR here's come nice shots of a 21p I recently bought and locked it as a v3CA1 which can use some full shots... How sexy and how cool is this coin guys? Almost want to keep it. A tale of 2 coins (love that) with a terminal obverse that is actually kind of attractive for a terminal together...

Re: Tone removing help

If it's a common date and you're sure it's not s premium VAM, this is a good coin to begin with. You will mess up eventually, you will lose money. It happens. But just consider it paying for your education in conservation..

Re: striations anyone?

I would definitely pass on a 92-CC that looked like that. They're typically well-struck, and that would be too much money to spend on a curiosity. An 84-O like that would make for a really good educational piece, though. True. That situation pretty much sums up my approach with them. If they're sev...

Re: What happened to 12,000 1895-P silver dollars?

Good stuff Roger. I wonder though, if the bags were on the bottom or near so to speak in the old vault, and due to that, during the transfer, they were then put at the "top" of the pile or shelves etc could they have been the first to go due to Pittman, and being only 12 measly bags all were sacrifi...

I have one with very pronounced roller lines on both sides and all over IIRC, if I come across it I'll post it.

If I want the coin I wouldn't care, generally. And in some circumstances it might be a bonus.

Re: what caused this?

I've thought of this as two forms of mechanical damage doubling interacting - a little shear from a loose die during strike and then it gets pushed more at ejection I used to think that too, some sort of severe MD but I started seeing multiple examples of same obv's plus Leroy lists it as die marke...

Re: what caused this?

A manifestation of date hub doubling. Thanks for bringing this up cuz I've always wanted a more detailed explanation of this. Such a unique look to this kind of doubling, especially with wild ones like this. @vampicker @messydesk ?

I affectionately call them "Melted Dates"

...A 107 in a Blanchard w/ color! 😎 Couldn't resist, even though I have some 20 +/- on various stages of this obv. It's an obsession at this point  vampicker , what's the story with Blanchards, is it the company from New Orleans? 20200116_123808.jpg 20200116_123906.jpg 20200116_123849...

I'm down for Long Beach :D Yeah buddy. Nico lives around here but I have yet to meet up with him. The usual crew is me, Brent, John Coxe & Mark Witkower. Ash and crew & JR come out every so often too. It would be nice to come up with an anchor of some kind to get the flock to come out on the regula...

Jet lag SUCKS...

That is all 😖😴😴😴 So much to do, so little energy. Worth it for FUN tho, mostly to get to see everyone. Coins are secondary. I much prefer shop-hopping anyway. The deals are better and so is the material, typically.. But there is simply no substitute for the VAMradery  Wish y'all would come ...
