Die Markers / Class Question and "that 97O"

I managed to capture a few photos of this 97O. But ran into a Fundamental question, I'm seeking help with first: If all the fine die markers shown in VAM-6 match this coin, doesn't that mean the coins shared the same physical die (not juts die class)? And if that's so, then how come the crack patter...

Thanks Chris.
Yeah, that was the rebel in me I guess. Last chance to use the cute nickname before the change in nomenclature is final. 8-)

Re: First buffed reverse?

My collapsed die #1 (first buffer) came in the mail today, and I couldn't help myself - I had to take a couple quick pics.
Yes, indeed, it sure was cleaned. In fact it's so bright and shiny I have to squint to try and gauge what the grade would be. But "who cares" - I finally found one. :D

Another 97O VAM-6 die pair?

I was looking for a 97O VAM6B recently but found this instead. 97O_Rev-c_Gildy1k.jpg As many know 97O in MS can be pricey, and there aren't many varieties known, so when I found this one with major cracks and possible breaks that didn't match any known varieties, I thought it was worth a chance to l...

Re: An 1921 S, that I was able to attribute

Hi Bert. Small world (again)! It picked up one of those myself last week. Not as pretty as yours for sure, but I think you'll want to take a look at 6A. It's on the Hit List 40! [update]: I read your subject too fast. You're saying that you WERE able to attribute it? Then you know it's a 6A no...

Re: First buffed reverse?

Yikes, this turned into something I didn't see. But, for me it's a great education. I love the history of the hub and die during it's life. How the hubs and dies are both steel and one needs to be hard and the other soft to transfer the image. The fact that they soften at different rates in differen...

Re: First buffed reverse?

Welcome to my addiction... I joined VAMworld-01 in 2012 and it just so happened there was a discussion about the '83-O 1C at that very time. It was a life (collecting) changing moment for me. I managed to find a raw LDS 1C2 shortly there-after and continued to search for this holy grail. Along the ...

Re: First buffed reverse?

I guess I have a lot of catching up to do. What a coincidence - the buffed reverse list came up just over a week ago.

First buffed reverse?

I've been fishing the bay for a buffed reverse for a long time now and finally pulled one out tonight. She ain't very pretty (maybe AU with a chance of being cleaned), but I think she's an '83O VAM-1C1 and will be all mine :) 83Ov1C1_091119.jpg My Wow! VAM book caused the search to start over a year...

Re: 1886-O VAM-20 Revision (Break or Crack Follow-up)

Thanks Guys. Thanks for the updates Wayne. I updated the page to point to larger plate photos, and added a LFCP of the revision coin. I also added a comment declaring later die states have a large dramatic die break, ;) Just kidding - I did add a comment mentioning a distinct crack on some later die...

Re: "Girl on the Silver Dollar" book

Yes he is! I finally picked up a copy of " Mine to Mint " and have found it very interesting and well written. To my surprise, there's was CD included with a searchable PDF version on it. I was searching for how denticles are implemented. The word appears 51 times (only ;)), and the first occurrence...

1886-O VAM-20 Revision (Break or Crack Follow-up)

Leroy has provided a revision to the 1886-O VAM-20 listing in response to my 86O submission. Could Wayne or Andy please update the listing with a revision in a proper manner? I'm not sure of revision protocol. Here are smaller copies of the plate photos and the letter here, and then upload the large...

Re: 8 tf ?

It would be super cool if the mint used an 8TF as the model to remake the 21's tho.. That would have been cool - almost make up for the butcher job some say they did on Anna's profile. This is interesting - I've always just paid attention to the feather count. I would have been satisfied with Mitch...

A couple photos of that other 82O/S v4 (with freckles). Guessing this is LDS also.
I was taken by how strong the pitting was on this as well (on the Eagle more so).

Re: 1882 o/s VAM 4 Freckles EDS or LDS

Wow what a coincidence(s). I picked up a v4 and was scrutinizing it for EDS vs. LDS just two nights ago. It's LDS for me as well. I can relate to all the charities mentioned above and have to say I have the same take on each. Scott - I have to believe you're not alone in your sentiments and decision...
