'79 Off Center Newp!

1979, that is. About 1% the price of what a 15% off-center 1879 would have cost.

Re: 1888-O VAM 12A pixs & question

Thank you John! However, several of the cracks I posted are not included in even the latest die state discussed in the article. Yours looks like Stage 4, Dennis. I'm looking at the depth of the rim cud above the I in PLURIBUS. The radial crack next to the I seems to be there as early as Stage 3.

If I had an MS69 Morgan, I wouldn't be looking to get a new VAM assigned to it.
Right. But Jack Lee did own one or two. That was my thought process anyway
The PCGS 69s are all 80-S and 81-S, except for one 96-S. That Jack Lee is not the VAM Jack Lee.

There was a VAM-e on this variety several years ago (4/12/2014) showing 5 stages.

What you show inside the 8 and 9 is a result of die polishing, not repunching such as that seen on VAM 19.

Re: Possible new VAM coins

Welcome to VAMWorld! First, note that "errors" refer to striking errors, where varieties (and VAMs) refer to variations in the dies. If you have a loupe, try taking a picture of what it is on your coin you'd like us to see through the loupe. Also describe it in words. I can't tell what it is I'm sup...

Re: 1899-o vam 11a?

Might be too early for VAM 11A as shown. I see a lot with the cracks like that, but there needs to be wider breaks for VAM 11A. What complicates things is that the 11A discovery coin was VF, and the thickness of the breaks might be due to wear on the coin. I've been calling coins like yours VAM 11A ...

Re: TPG Question

If I look only at the recent bulk order that came back from PCGS, it seemed in line with previous submissions. A few that I disagreed with in both directions, a couple no-grades that will probably grade sometime and somewhere, and most graded reasonably.

If anyone was planning on signing up for the Morgan dollar class Michael Fey and I are doing next week, the class is now full, with 500 participants. If you did sign up, I hope you'll be able to learn something from this new format for us. Condensing 22 hours into 2 means no time to go into great de...

@messydesk, wanna maybe put something along the lines of "Possible empty nest same die pair as VAM 4 listing" on the v36 page?

Re: 1884-o Pics 4 Page.... Full, No-Plate Zombie

VAM 4 makes sense. I'm away from my VAM book at the moment, but one thing that struck me odd was the III2 19 designation for the VAM 4 obverse die, where I expected it to be III2 3, like VAMs 11 and 36. If VAM4 is III2 3 in the book, then it seems odd that VAM 36 was ever listed at all with nothing ...

Brian is the go-to guy for 79-S. Many have retouched outer wreath leaves above the N of ONE. Pictures of those might also help.

Seems like it from here. Based on the VAM 11 picture, not exactly the same die, but it would be described the same way.

Cleaned 80 VAM 6, maybe? VAM 6 is the "Spikes" variety, though. "Ears" is VAM 8.

Re: General question

Did the old vam world web site have On the vams a listing for rarity, saying something like this vam is highly desirable, or it’s a very common vam? I just joined last year, and I kinda remember something like that, any thoughts? Maybe my memory is going? There may have been some such pages. I most ...
