Re: 1889O Rotated Reverse 68 degrees to right

If I search the Wiki for "1889-O" and "rotated" (Wiki search function is a wonderful thing), I come up with VAMs 1, 3, and 9. They can be differentiated by mint mark and date position, which I can't tell from your pictures. When you see a range of rotation amounts, keep in mind that once a die start...

PS I also advised against posting any personal info, like phone #'s, as
I believe in this day of instant information it could pose a security risk.
I have that instruction on the BST board. I will redact that kind of info in someone's post if I run across it while browsing the boards.

Re: ANA numismatic association grading question

The holders are collectible and scarce and the grades are credible. If you want value opinions, that's what the "What's it Worth" forum is for. If you have a price in mind, that's what the BST forum is for.

Re: ANA numismatic association grading question

That was the earliest ANACS slab, back when the ANA still ran it, right before ANACS was purchased by Amos Publishing. Feb 1989- June 1990. The dates can possibly be pinned down further based on the letters in the serial number.

Re: is leroy available to play with coins yet?

Troubling to hear. I wish them both the best, but I can't get over how cheesed I am that nobody was allowed to help them move. Would anyone have been allowed to help him up had he fallen with something? I admire that he is in good spirits. I can't say that I would be feeling the same in those circum...

Re: Great Collections web site

I've brought this up to them in the past, and eventually cited the Eagle Eye Indian cent attribution stickers that they do accept. Didn't hear anything back after that. It does interfere with where they'd put their sticker, but there are ways around that. Heritage put the coins in sleeves to preserv...

Re: Is this an 1882-S VAM 11A ?

Looks like it to me, assuming the denticles by the M in UNUM are polished down like on the photo on the VAM 11A page, otherwise it would be VAM 11.

Re: Early Typewriter at the Mint

I contacted Martin Howard, the collector behind this (impressive) antique typewriters website to see if he could confirm the make and model of the typewriter based on the typeface. He said that several fonts were in production at the time, so that alone wouldn't give away what model the typewriter w...

Re: 8TF grading set in attributed PCGS holders

Too bad you missed the deadline for their digital album awards. It's way cooler than some of the nominees. Yeah, I saw the nominees and was shocked how boring some are. Modern quarters? Maybe next year. Not just the quarters, but also the hockey pucks, with a stock photo used for the obverse. One o...

Re: 1888-S Morgan Dollar Die Study

Just ran across this as the first typewritten letter in the scanned stuff, from November 10, 1880. A different typewriter from that which was used a few years later. Only upper case, so perhaps a " Remington Perfected 4 ." https://ia800903.us.archive.org/BookReader/BookReaderImages.php?zip=/4/items/...

Re: 1888-S Morgan Dollar Die Study

As I was saying, I figured there was a clue in the scanned stuff somewhere. 1880 is very early with respect to commercially produced typewriters. I found this likely candidate, the Remington 2 , for one of the earliest typewriters at the Mint. It used ribbons, had both upper and lower case (unlike t...

Early Typewriter at the Mint

My curiosity is piqued as to when the Mint Director's office first got a typewriter and what kind it was. I suppose the answer may be in the scanned stuff somewhere.

Re: I need help with my 1921 Peace vam 1O

Looking at your pictures and those of the discovery coin, I'd want to compare the die polishing between the two to see if maybe yours has more clash detail from before the dies were polished. If you can match up some of the stronger die polishing lines on both sides of your coin, I'd say that the ot...
