Re: HISTORY LESSON O/T ?

The eventual root of numismatic is the Greek νόμος. with the French using the word "numismatique" in the 18th century. The hobby goes back much further than that, with there being well-documented collectors among Renaissance nobility and scholars, hence the name "hobby of kings." Caesar Augustus was...

No PLs have been certified, but are you sure it isn't a proof? Pictures would help.

My last FUN acquisition

Picked this bad boy up at about 4:15 this afternoon. It came with a $250 grading credit at NGC. I tied for 1st in their grading contest with former PCGS President Ron Guth. The irony is that I think I missed the correct (according to NGC) grades on both Morgan dollars. :D

Thanks Lee, HawkeEye and messydesk, the VAM-47 seems to be the perfect match. What about that line in the first eight, top loop..?
Probably just a stain of some sort.

f I buy $20000 in insurance and send it Registered Mail am I making the package more susceptible to tampering by calling attention to the value?
Tampering with a Registered package will result in jail time. There are much lower-risk targets going through the USPS.

Re: Beware USPS shipping

If you ship a lot, it makes sense to insure through a third party, either a la carte, or with an insurance policy. Premiums, coverage, and deductibles will vary, but you avoid drawing attention to package having any value, since there's no insurance sticker or high postage on the package. The other ...

Re: 1881O......?

I updated the VAM 53 page to note the reverse die was later used on VAM 47. I saw the crack through the mint mark and throught of VAM 53 right away, too. Date is an obvious match for VAM 47. VAM 53 is probably the most common 81-O variety. VAM 47, not so much.

I hate to assume anything anymore (but yet I can't seem to break the habit), so I have to ask "is strike doubling?"

My flight arrives just before noon Thursday. I'll be meeting up with Russ at the airport and then catching a ride to the show.

Which brings up a good question. Since Kenny wont be able to make it, is VT and JR's presentation still going to be filmed so those not attending in-person can still "be there?"@vampicker @messydesk Usually, David Lisot records these things, although since that's his business, he will probably only...

Just a reminder that this was an active auction at the time this was being posted here, and while I seriously doubt doing so influenced the outcome of the auction, the policy here is to only post active auctions on the BST board. Regarding the use of VAMWorld in the auction in the form of screenshot...

Don't "look through them" Brent, that's JB's job!
Anyone have a bag or two of mixed MM 21's laying around?
You though PCGS bulk turnaround was slow? Send me a bag full of 21s and see what happens.

Re: 2019 VSS/PCGS Bulk Submission #5 Open

Crossovers can't go in a bulk submission, but I can prepare a crossover submission for you and attribute them when they come back. Costs for the crossovers will be what they usually are. If anyone else wants to do any crossovers, I can bundle them to spread out the PCGS-related shipping fees.

VSS Slight Pricing Changes for 2020

The last time I updated my submission form was in 2009, so I figured it was time to take a closer look at the shipping fees, since they've changed a lot in 10 years. I decided to restructure them to include a $5 handling fee for all orders, but reduce the per-coin return shipping to 50c per coin. Sm...

20000 in 2020?

A couple days ago, I attributed and stickered coin #17876 in my database. I had 1800 coins cross my desk in 2019, which means it's not unreasonable for me to hit 20000 by the end of 2020. I had over 2200 in 2017, so the number I need has been hit before. Wish me luck!
