Hold off sending to Leroy

It's that time of the year. I haven't heard from him officially, but he starts working on the annual supplements now, so it's best to refrain from sending him coins until he's finished with them, probably late February or early March.

Re: Group Question. We all have that one...

I'm actually rather disciplined here, in that I don't have a particular VAM I've stockpiled. There are some that I would if I could, but they're super rare, and one doesn't simply stockpile the super rare stuff.

Re: 20000 in 2020?

JB, One VSS attribution is coming your way right now (sort of accidentally) along with 35 coins for the next PCGS bulk submission. I screwed up and sent you a PCGS VAM that PCGS doesn't actually attribute, the 1885 V23A (doh). If you could just VSS attribute that one and hold on to it, I have about...

You get a quarter for adult contest?
Yup. It'd only grade 65 at best because of scuffs on the portrait, so it's a condition rarity. I asked when the NGC guy was looking for it if it was locked away because it was big and gold.

Re: What's Going on at the FUN?

This show was so thick with people wanting to spend money, that i was, and wasn’t prepared. I had the coins but.... I also sold lots of vam related books. Which helped lighten my load getting out of there. It was crowded through Saturday, more so than I remember in the past. I heard a lot of people...

Re: What's Going on at the FUN?

THE MONSTER REPORT!!!! I got to cherry an 1878-P VAM 14.7 RAW. I sent it to PCGS STAT and am waiting for the to decide what grade to call it. The few that saw it seemed to think it should be an MS63. I hope so. I am confident it will prove worth my $360.00 investment at any rate. The great day that...

Re: HISTORY LESSON O/T ?

The eventual root of numismatic is the Greek νόμος. with the French using the word "numismatique" in the 18th century. The hobby goes back much further than that, with there being well-documented collectors among Renaissance nobility and scholars, hence the name "hobby of kings." Caesar Augustus was...

My last FUN acquisition

Picked this bad boy up at about 4:15 this afternoon. It came with a $250 grading credit at NGC. I tied for 1st in their grading contest with former PCGS President Ron Guth. The irony is that I think I missed the correct (according to NGC) grades on both Morgan dollars. :D

Thanks Lee, HawkeEye and messydesk, the VAM-47 seems to be the perfect match. What about that line in the first eight, top loop..?
Probably just a stain of some sort.

f I buy $20000 in insurance and send it Registered Mail am I making the package more susceptible to tampering by calling attention to the value?
Tampering with a Registered package will result in jail time. There are much lower-risk targets going through the USPS.

Re: Beware USPS shipping

If you ship a lot, it makes sense to insure through a third party, either a la carte, or with an insurance policy. Premiums, coverage, and deductibles will vary, but you avoid drawing attention to package having any value, since there's no insurance sticker or high postage on the package. The other ...

Re: 1881O......?

I updated the VAM 53 page to note the reverse die was later used on VAM 47. I saw the crack through the mint mark and throught of VAM 53 right away, too. Date is an obvious match for VAM 47. VAM 53 is probably the most common 81-O variety. VAM 47, not so much.
