Re: New take on 1889 VAM 23A

Not exactly. VAM 7 is back as a catch all for 'High 9' - or slanted dates other than the VAM 23/A/B marriage. VAM 7A is now a pre-clash version of the VAM 7B. VAM 7B is back to where it was and belongs. The former versions of VAM 7A are now lumped into VAM 23B. And they're all so much cooler So 7 b...

Re: New take on 1889 VAM 23A

Nice to have a conclusion to this. It looks like the original 7, 7A, and 7B are back to what they were and there is a new 23B that is not what the interim VAM 23B was. I'll rename the appropriate pages and untangle the VAM numbers for these tonight. I'm glad seeing stuff like this and the 84-O VAM 5...

Re: 1882s vams 3.10,23,32

There are a lot of "shares obverse/reverse with" annotations in the listings that are misleading. They may simply be referring to the die name (e.g., "C3b"), and they may refer to the actual die. Short of doing a die study, many problems like this will never be resolved.

Re: PCGS New Cheap box

I got a black plastic box today. An order I got a couple weeks ago was their new small, white cardboard box that holds 10. I imagine they'll use the full-size cardboard box for bulk or shows. It's a lot easier to transport a few thousand cardboard boxes to a show than it is a few thousand plastic bo...

Currently in "encapsulation" status. Not sure what this means as far as when they'll be on their way back, though.

Still plenty of room in submission #5.

Drag and drop JPEG files to the message box, then go to the "Attachments" tab to place them inline with your message or delete them. No more than 5 images.

Re: O/T... "Price for U.S. Mint's 3-inch BRONZE medals to quadruple to $160"

Perhaps it's some weird, counter-intuitive dance they're doing with perceived rarity and value. If they're cheap, they'll be able sell more, everyone will think everyone will buy one, and so nobody will want them. If they're too expensive, nobody will want them, but everyone will see that they're to...

Pictures aren't clear enough to attribute the typical coin accurately, but I'm pretty sure this is VAM 40.

He just wrote me says he will take it down!
If he puts it back up there or elsewhere, contact the ACEF Anti-Counterfeiting task force.

Re: Any 1893 s specialists in the house?

PCGS has made it easier to verify authentic coins by adding auction appearances to their cert verification. In this case, it shows to links to two auctions that have the genuine article photographed.

Wonderful find Dan!
I constantly look for those and if I ever find one I'll try to sneak it into a PCGS holder via a bulk submission.
For the record, I discourage sending them fakes.

Re: 80s... v7/94 obv... NOT Rev of either?... Leroy?

Whenever something seems fishy, I always go to the VAM book and try and trace the history of a listing back to it or forward from it through the supplements. It's hard for someone to add bad information into either of those.

Re: 1903 Clashed chin and nose? Verification help needed.

I don't see a clash on your coin. As with any Philly Morgan, start with the date. Look for repunched digits. Since it falls between 1884 and 1904, the date position also comes into play. There are also some doubled profiles for 1903. Starting to attribute from die clashes, unless they are strong, is...
