A new 8 TF Find

I picked this one up on the BAY, with a note stating Old Cleaning! LOL Its a great thing that some seller don't understand that AU PL coins look that way. Anyway it turned out to be a VAM-14.16 in what looks like a solid AU-55

Help ID,ing an 1880 P Check Mark

OK I won this coin on Heritage and its a MS-63 PL coin. I cant find a check mark listed like it. It has really strong tooling inside the hair under the neck line. I have compared my VAM-16 EDS to it and its not right as well. From the photos, "Keep in mind the photo" not coin in hand, looks like it ...

Re: 1891 0. Clashed 'E'. VAM 1A..?

Folks the Gouge under the R in TRUST is know and I have had all of them over Leroy's home. The V-1a1 with out the gouge under the R is a V1a1 EDS and with its a V 1a1 it is considered to small a detail to list. Leroy has had it sent to him more times than I have fingers! PRE Leroy: Don't send them t...

Re: Consistency or the lack therof

The thought of restoration and re-grade has crossed my mind, as this coin has graded 3 times and shows no issues. It has the luster of an XF 45 and the detail for it, it just lacks the eye appeal.

Consistency or the lack therof

Well a few may remember this coin from an old thread. This coin was a PCGS 30 grade, and I was far from happy, I sent it in for a re grade and it graded 35, I just broke it out and now its an XF 40. I think it has nice eye appeal for the grade of XF 40 but it also has the strike, lack of ware and lu...

Re: 1891 0. Clashed 'E'. VAM 1A..?

The VAM 1a3 has the large bump and a large break in top or the bump as well. The radial die break is displaced slightly as well but late die state VAM-1a2 coins also show the radial break but they are really not displaced. As far as difference between A VAM 1a1 and a VAM 1a4 where no bump is present...

Re: 1878 S New Die Pair with Denticle Clashing?

Yes, its the same rev. die and its a clashed ST. But unlike the one that is see on the V42 page and that was my coin as are the photos it did not have the impressions. THE What they are or what caused them is what interests me.

Re: 1878 S New Die Pair with Denticle Clashing?

Thanks, I have a V-42 without them and the photos of that coin are the VW 42 coin photos, and the MS 62 PL that can be seen in the SSDC Heritage photos also lacks them. That's kind of where my question comes from.

1878 S New Die Pair with Denticle Clashing?

I just won this thing and I have the Obverse Die being that of the 1878 S V-42a. The main factor being is the die crack running from the Neck Point to the rim, few 1878 S coins have cracks on the Obverse and after looking over the SSDC photos that are viewable I am about 99.9% sure, The reverse has ...

Reflection Glider

Well I designed this glider in my head around last Dec, as a gift to my 1st niece's wedding. I named the chair or glider a reflection glider when I thought of it because. The piece is American Black Walnut and American Cheery to represent 2 different people, both independently attractive but combine...

Re: Send to Leroy? 1891-O BERT

On most variety listings each VAM has other things or Pick up Points that are not in the listing. If every small pick up point was listed the Encyclopedia, the book would be 8 feet thick or more. With out seeing the full coin, I cant tell you if this coin is a V-1a4 or a VAM 1a2. But to your questio...

Re: 1880 VAM 33A confirmed as a Weak E variety

If the one you looked at in Jan John, is the one I think it is...Its as late as it can get most likely and still catch the backbone. The earlier examples amount to less than 4 coins that I know of the attributed V-33a and just finding one of any type is an adventure.
