Re: 1878 P VAM-134 EDS No Polishing lines

This one has No polishing and looks more like a DMPL than the PL designation given. It is graded MS-62 PL, and in hand looks way better than the grade.

1878 P VAM-134 EDS No Polishing lines

Well I bought this coin not really knowing what it was, but it looked a bit nicer than the grade given it. As it turns out the seller sent in 20 coins and 17 body bagged, and I think the graders may have made him pay for that error. Anyway this coin has fields that clearly reflect 10 inches or more ...

Really Broken 1921 D Help Please

Below is a 1921 D that I had VAM 1P3 in my flip. I cant Find VAM-1p3 in the VAM Listings. At first glance the reverse looks like a VAM 19 a or somewhere in the progression, it's not. I have run thought the die crack guilds and cant find this one. Big OB pick up point is s break running thought the S...

I will be at the airports USO waiting for John B and I get in around 11:25 AM Thursday. So if there are others that are getting in from 10:30 to 12:15 or so we can share a ride to the convention center, most Hotels you cant check into until 2:00 PM

Re: 78s v18a pops

The VAM-18 seems to be the rarest of the 2 types and the amount of "Art Work" done in both of the Eagles wings is remarkable. The semi PL MS-62 has more contact marks but the devices have some frosted contrast that highlights the Re-Detailing of the die. I mis-spoke I have a MS-62 and 63 in the V 18...

Re: Back from Leroy 4 NEW 1878 Varieties W/ 2 new 8 TF

I would agree with that, and is what I thought would happen. I did point out the feeder finger gouges when I sent it in, and was a little shocked when he divided them up into 3. Should a now 14.2 show up it will be extremely rare. Again I urge everyone in the SSDC to look at there 14.2a coins to see...

Re: Back from Leroy 4 NEW 1878 Varieties W/ 2 new 8 TF

The official listings are VAM-14.2 VAM 14.2a and VAM-14.2b From what I have from Leroy is that as the VAM-14.2 is the last usage of the reverse die, and non of the earlier pairings have the feeder finger gouges thought the "O" of OF, a coin must have been minted without the gouges. I am sure the VAM...

Re: Back from Leroy 4 NEW 1878 Varieties W/ 2 new 8 TF

While I really do not understand what happened to this coin. I cant think of a way to manufacture this effect. The coin clearly has PMD, with that said the inside areas of the lettering show no tooling. Some of the areas I am speaking about are a tight as a needle point. I have taken a few really ba...
