The term the Die is the Die come into play. If you strike 10,000 coins with a die, the die will have ware that's not present on earlier examples. The die pair is the same and has all the primary pick up points. Leroy Van Allen will not list what is considered normal die ware, nor will he give a clas...

Re: 1883-O VAM"38" with Dbl'd Stars/Berries/Letters/Partial E(?)/Broken Arrow... Confirmed w. 2nd Coin! Finally!

The arrow heads cant have clashing on the visible top, In a working die the arrow heads are recessed as are the stars, and lettering as well as the Ms. Liberty's relief on the obverse . 2 opposing recessed reliefs cant clash inside of one another in a press as the field areas of the dies, would impa...

1878 P 8 TF A1d reverse Clashed

I just got this in the mail today as well. Its just an 1878 VAM-6 but this one is clashed and has almost none of the cracks one normally see's in this variety. It also has some interesting polishing lines on the reverse you can faintly see one of them, It runs from the "T" thought the "W" in WE. I a...

Re: Big Problem with this 1878 P B1 Reverse with a CUD

I am not saying its not a squeeze job, in fact I am asking for opinions. I have seen a fair number of coins the someone has played with or pressed and this one looks nothing like anyone of them. The coin has rim damage, but not on the reeding but on the reverse side, and something happened there, He...

Cut coins are most often Circulated as to hide the cut and roll over. This is an UNC coin with a few light wipes

Re: Big Problem with this 1878 P B1 Reverse with a CUD

I have seen many "Cut Coins" This is not a cut. All the lettering in the fields are level and show no damage including the reverse lettering on the opposite side. The raised areas have sharp defined terminations into areas that run into the lettering with no tooling and are in areas that I would thi...

Re: Big Problem with this 1878 P B1 Reverse with a CUD

Nope its note burnt that's just the photo. The reverse on the opposite side of the CUD has no damage on the fields or lettering. The cud looks like the kind found on a lot of Washington Quarters.

Big Problem with this 1878 P B1 Reverse with a CUD

Well this coin was in the mail for about 11 days and I showed it to a few after if was in the mail. Rob thought it was a tape line or internet trickery " With good reason!" The reeding on the coin is OK all the way around with a little damage on the rev side from what looks like a drop. All of the l...

Re: 1900-P VAM 5D (yes D) Near Date, Clashed Obverse, Clashed Reverse, Partial E...

I have looked at and seen so many Phantom E clashes, I would agree with Rob its not hard to convince yourself something is present. The first thing you need is a clashed die pair and the one in your photos is not clashed. All but one E Clash coin has a clash above the bonnet. and the only one with o...

Re: So... I discovered the missing bottom half to the 1887-P "Partial E"... No BS...

This coin you have is not a VAM-1b, The date position is closer to a near date than a normal and is about 1/3 of a deniticle to fare left. The V-1b also has a die cracks that are found on every none example.

Intresting EDS 1878 PL

Well I found this coin on the BAY, late last week. Its a rather common 1878 P V-121. This one has a no less than high PL and closer to DMPL rev, and a solid PL OB. The doubled "P" and the R are much sharper and have more going on than the MS MS-63 I own. It looks like no PL coins are known in the SS...

Re: 1921 S Heavy clash Help

Well its not a VAM-1CE at all, Kind OF. Its the correct clashed die pair "But it doesn't look at all like the photos in the listing. It looks to have about 90% of the I clash and it also has the M clash on the reverse above the "O" of GOD. It also has really deep polishing lines all over the OB. But...
