The clash in front of the forehead is the reverse wreath.

Re: 1891-O VAM-1A2/3... How to tell which I have?...
I did not see the gouge on your 1st photo of your coin. It is a middle die state or so.
The VAM-1a4 has the dies broken down and a hard polishing was done to remove the wreath clashing by the forehead. The VAM-1a4 was one of my discovery's. Here is a full frame shot of the OBV.

Re: 1891-O VAM-1A2/3... How to tell which I have?...
What you have is an Early die state of the VAM-1a1. You will note that it doesn't have a gouge coming out to the "R" in TRUST on the reverse. Leroy VA is aware of the EDS of this VAM, and the lack of the gouge is not something new or list-able. Below is a photo of my VAM-1a1 in a little later die st...

Strange 1879 S over S
I picked this up earlier today to try to VAM it for a dealer. At first I was thinking Strike doubling but no other area looks to be doubled at all, and the secondary S is "Raised" Any clues ???

Well this one will not make it into the registry this year but its a stone cold Bunny coin. I am about 90% sure it was a V1a and I think its a PO-1

Re: Need 83-O Expert... VAM-23B With Possible Transfer...?
TheYokel, I have seen a bunch of phantom E Clashed in my day, and if you ask anyone here about 5 years ago I saw many. From experience I understand that PMD or Post Mint Damage and toning as well as lighting can present the illusion of an E Clash. The size of an E Clash is small, and almost everyone...

Re: Need 83-O Expert... VAM-22A With Extremely Rusted Die...?
This coin is not a VAM-22a or even a VAM-22. If this was a VAM 22a you would be able to see the clashed E with reading glasses

Re: PCGS attribution question
PCGS has an issue with the 1880 p vam 1A2 I hold one of the coins that was the Break point for the VAM 1a1 and V 1a2. Leroy calls the VAM 1a2 Knobbed 8 as a coin with the triangle die break at the 8 and a crack running into the relief. PCGS calls this coin a VAM 1a EDS, when its not, The VAM 1a EDS ...

Re: Grade Opinions
Well here is the grade on this one. My personal feelings are that if this coin is run thought conservation and the fields witch look to be black turn out to be just that. The coin has a solid shot at an MS-64 DMPL as the relief's are extremely free of contact marks and the coin looks to be well stru...

Re: 1887-P VAM-3A.... With Eye Scratch?...
The VAM listings from LVA range from 1 sentence to no more than 3 sentences. Many of the things you are finding on coins are present on all of a given VAM, they are just not named! If they where the VAM book would be 7 feet high. Clashes come strong and then are worn down from striking or mint worke...

Re: 2 vary nice Pick ups tonight
The size of the beard is a key pick up point, the larger the beard the earlier the die state I have found. It looks like the die pair was polished after the clash and the beard was almost fully polished away.
Here is the other coin I Won!!

Re: Need Some 83-O assistance... MM Tilted Left and Repunched to Left?...
The 1883 O V-36a is a "Dash" Obverse coin, this meaning the second 8 has a dash under the number. The V-36a is rather common in all die states from early to vary late. The earlier the die state the more visible the E Clash is. The reverse die is the only single die known to have been E clashed 2 tim...

This tread has gone on forever and I think you are just trying to see how long you can keep it going. Your coin has no G clash and it seems like all the great advice that's been provided is being ignored. Based on how many times you have ignored everything you have been told, I have come to the conc...
