Re: New 1901 P WOW Coin that should be Tops

Yes the coin is on its way to PCGS and Yes it is a problem free Uncirculated coin that I looked over with a 20 power loupe. This type luster is the same as on the other 2 VAM-20's I have in PCGS 53 and 58. The coin has no broken lusted, albeit the coins luster looks dead unless you catch the light a...

Re: PCGS AU PL's and AU + Grades

I have an 1886 O V1a2 in PCGS 58+ as well. The coin is a MS-60/61 and I think its worth sending in to someone other than PCGS to have it graded for what it is, as the value swing is about 140%

Re: Interesting Progresion on the 1878 P V-43

Well the photos are out of order ... :(

You can make out the progression by looking at the Breaks, Here are the upper field breaks, On the DMPL coins you can see where the brakes where polished down, but the brake extensions are the correct.

Interesting Progresion on the 1878 P V-43

After winning a PCGS VAM-43 on Heritage last week, and only bidding on it as the doubling just looked much stronger than I recalled. The coin I won is an MS-63 PL, and what I have now Noticed is this. 1st all the DMPL coins look to be a later and port polished version of the VAM-43. While looking un...

Re: My new 1878 P variety

My biggest concern with this coin is! Once the coin is in hand! 1st I find a die break running from the rim into the second 8 of the date making the coin a VAM-14.19 tooled 2nd OR finding a die break under the 7 in the date making it a VAM 14.18 3rd Or finding a break under the 1 making it a VAM 14.20

Re: Another Restoration / Contamination Question

Putting tape over a coin has been done for awhile now, if a coin has tape on it the coin cant really get scratched from laying around in a draw somewhere.

Re: Another Restoration / Contamination Question

I have a can with acetone that I drop a coin in and just close the lid and come back to it days later. That way the acetone doesn't evaporate and it soaks into tape residue and removes it.

Re: After PCGS Restoration

The before photo is not a good gauge as the coin looked OK but not as nice as the photo. That photo was the sellers photo on E Bay so it shows the coin in the best possible light. The grade was an MS-63 and still is, but this coin is a CAC waiting to happen!

Re: After PCGS Restoration

I think they use something like MS-70 and that is not an acid that strips silver off. Again I think, I know that if you use that it will not clear really dark spots fully like the DOLL area on this coin.

Re: After PCGS Restoration

Well the PCGS process is Be careful on what you send in, they can at a whim pull the coin and state that the holder and grade is wrong and your left with no coin and a value you may not agree with. That doesn't happen often but it can happen. As far as this coin is concerned, I sent the coin in arou...

After PCGS Restoration

Well this just came back from PCGS restoration services, as it had color that in images looked much darker than they where, but they where over the money spots. No Upgrade in grade, but I thought it was correctly graded to begin with but there are some MS-64 coins that look like this LOL.
