Re: 1878s Doubled RIB

The coin displays most attributes of a VAM 43.

Re: 1878s Doubled RIB

Thanx for all your input, I appreciate it all very much. I'll try to find some time to search the '78 Short Nocks for the coin. I'm "slowly" learning.

Re: 1878s Doubled RIB

If the RIB is doubled, and if the MM does not match the location of another 1878s with a doubled RIB, then it is a new VAM.

Re: 1878s Doubled RIB

The reverse may be B2r, used on VAMs 24, 30 and 43.

Re: 1878s Doubled RIB

I don't think it is the VAM-71 as the Mint Mark on this coin is tilted further to the left. And, I think the RIB is doubled here.

1878s Doubled RIB

I'm having issues determining the VAM, the 4th right star appears broken, the 6th right star appears tripled. The mint mark is high like VAM-111 but I can't see the VAM-111 PUPS. EOO_6314_1878s_ob.jpg EOO_6312_1878s_rev.jpg EOO_6327_1878s_RIB.jpg EOO_6327_1878s_LIBERTY.jpg EOO_6329_1878s_Arrows.jpg

Re: 1878s VAM-77

Register with Heritage Auctions, Great Collections, Stack’s Bowers, David Lawrence and with eBay. With eBay you need to check frequently due to “Buy It Now” and “Make Offer” offerings, and sometimes on eBay the sellers will have coins in their eBay stores that are not easily found for sale, you need...

Re: 1878s VAM-77

People prefer Philadelphia and Carson City Morgans instead of these San Francisco coins. I placed a high bid well before closing and was surprised to find no opposition. I guess the Hot 50 coins just aren't that collectible any more. Collectors are instead going for the Top 100 coins... the Alligato...

Re: 1878s VAM-77

vamsterdam says "Another reason it went so cheap is that is in a Ngc holder. Ngc has had a very hard time with easier vams and this one has a big downside if it is misattributed." PCGS, NGC and ANACS all misattribute the odd coin. It is great that the coins holdered by NGC and ANACS are discounted. ...

Re: 1878s VAM-77

I guess the crack through bottom three right stars isn't enough... instead a field displacement is required for the coin to obtain a new VAM number.

Re: 1878s VAM-77

The coin sold for just $103, I feel a bit sorry for the seller, auctions are a bit of a crap shoot.

Re: 1878s VAM-77

NGC registered 3, PCGS registered 12, any idea to determine what quantity ANACS registered? So there are at least 15 of these coins. Auction houses would be well served by doing this research and offering up population numbers before the auction closes.

1878s VAM-77

This 1878s VAM-77 had a pre-sale estimate of $400 and sold for only a quarter of that. There is a crack extending through the first three right stars, has this been noted on other late die state VAM-77 coins? Does anybody have any idea as to the population of this coin? Thanx.

Re: SF Long Nocks Stolen From Canadian Post Office

All were from the same seller, all shipped together, eBay refunded two of the coins, I expect they will refund the VAM-58 GO6 in short order as well. I am trying to put together SFLN sets in the same grades and required that VAM-58 G06, required that VAM-56 in EF40. I see that I may never get all 9 ...

SF Long Nocks Stolen From Canadian Post Office

I purchased these three San Francisco Long Nocks off a seller on eBay recently, we tracked the package as it crossed the United States. Eventually the package crossed the border and was delivered to the main Canadian Post Office Depot in Winnipeg Manitoba, but rather than be forwarded to me in Saska...

Re: San Francisco Long Nock Shows A Little Luster

Just picked it up, was attributed as a VAM-57, it is actually a VAM-56. Not sure what is coming out of the S in TRUST, is it a die crack or PMD?
