Re: 1922 Peace?

As the "gouge" appears to extend onto the beak, I suspect that it is either an artifact due to differential color in this area or some kind of planchet flaw. If it is neither, then it needs a trip to Leroy.

Re: Common areas of weakness on 1921 Peace dollars

Thank you for the excellent work, and for posting it here. I expect that at some point the grading services will acknowledge the well struck coins, as they do with "Full Head" Standing Liberty quarters and 6-step Jefferson nickels.

Nice pickup, and good job in attributing the coin! Thanks for posting photos. BTW, this reverse die was later used for VAM 1B.

Re: 1924 Unknown VAM, die chip at neck-jaw line

The later die state of this obverse has a radial die crack below I of LIBERTY, I cannot tell whether or not your coin has it. If the die crack shows displacement (mine does not), then it is certainly listable, even if Leroy doesn't list it for the die chip on the upper neck.

Re: Darkside... Sexy clashed 23s help... Obv Clashed E??

The CDC has recommended cancelling or postponing any venue in which there would be more that 50 people at a time, for the next 8 weeks. As such I expect that Dalton will likely soon be on the list of cancellations.
Assuming that there is a Dalton show in August, I will bring the coin.

Re: I need help with my clashed 1924 S

In looking at my discovery coin, yours is a somewhat later die state of VAM 1A.. I have identified 2 distinct die states, the obverse of the earlier having more clear clash marks whereas later they were polished down, especially to the right of the last tall ray. For clashed die & polished die affec...

Re: Darkside... Sexy clashed 23s help... Obv Clashed E??

The closest to a clashed E that I have seen on a 1923S is VAM 3B, the photos of which are on the VAMworld page. Leroy wouldn't list it for the clashed E, although the lower crossbar of E is evident. Assuming that there is a Dalton show next month, and I am able to make it (it is the same day as my g...

Re: 1924-P Peace Dollar Vam 8A or 8C ???

BHinkle, what you have is the EDS of VAM 8A with only 1 die break. This occurred after VAM 8C (ABC_COINS specimen at top). VAMs 8, 8A,8B, & 8C all have the die gouge eye. They occurred in the sequence: VAM 8 > 8B > 8C > 8A > 8D (has new obverse die). Hope this is helpful.

Re: 1925 Unknown VAM with Two Die Gouges

When I saw your post, I looked at my coin. I have not seen a VAM 3 without this obverse die gouge, & have not seen the die gouge without the VAM 3 reverse. If either is found, it would be worthy of a new listing IMHO.

Re: 1925 Unknown VAM with Two Die Gouges

The die gouge on the obverse is that of VAM 3. The area right of leaves appears to represent a clash mark. I am not sure about the underside of the wing, If your coin is not a VAM 3, then Leroy needs to see it.

Re: New Peace Letter Transfer

Your coin is a VAM 1B. I looked at my other 1927S w/ clashed obverse die, & this mark is evident on several, including VAM 1C & VAM 3. On the other side on the coin there is only a ray which could have made this mark during clashing. When I first saw your post, I thought the coin was a 1924, the VAM...

I don't see the die gouge in the eye of VAM 8 series. May be worth a trip to Leroy for the clashed die.

Try VAM 1AG, it has a similar clash in the hair.

Re: 1923 VAM-1CZ or something else?

Your coin does not appear to have the same die polishing above the hair between ER of LIBERTY as is shown on the VAMworld page. I don't recognize your coin as a listed variety, & would be a litle skeptical that Leroy would list it, as minor die file lines varieties are common. Hope this is helpful, ...

Re: 1923 1BP or something else?

I did not make the discovery, so I cannot answer your question regarding the discovery coin. If this is a die scratch & not PMD then it certainly is listable & would be much easier to attribute than file lines on the wing.
Hope this is helpful.

Re: 1923 1BP or something else?

The die file lines on the wing appear to match the photo of VAM 1BP. I am not sure if the line under G is a die scratch or PMD.

I've seen this before, currently not listed. It is similar to VAMs 1J, 1AD, 1AE, but smaller. It may be worth a trip to Leroy (in mid-March, see another thread about holding off for now), please post his response if you send it.
