Re: Help With 23 Peace

The obverse appears to have been struck with a rusted die. Try VAM 1CD

Re: COVID quarantine

Back to what I had originally posted, I have been able to fulfill one of my goals for the last 2 years - get up to 75% of the listed Peace dollar VAMs in my Registry set. I have a pile of about 20 coins to send to Leroy to get VAM listings killed. I hope others are enjoying their "quarantine" time a...

Re: COVID Business Failures O/T

JR, AKA vampicker, what you are saying is the right thing. Leroy & Marilyn will need to remain in hibernation for AT LEAST 6 months, & more likely a year, until sufficient "herd immunity" develops. Extending any lockdowns lengthens the time required for this to occur, and increases this risk that vu...

Re: COVID Business Failures O/T

As a physician, I think GA is doing it right, and TN is right behind them This is not the venue to delve deeply into the science or rationale, but everyone needs to understand that this virus is not going away. For that reason, slowly opening the economy, starting with those who are healthy, is a re...

Re: 1922D reverse rim anomaly

This is deterioration of the rim portion of the die. It is a form of a rim cud, (see www.cuds-on-coins.com for better examples of cuds and rim cuds), due to die wear. Unlike most rim cuds, this type of deterioration is not rare, and is not likely to be collected for this feature as attribution can b...

Re: 1923D die crack

VAM 1AL. For someone trying to put together a date set, 1923D is probably the easiest to attribute as most of the listings are for die breaks.

COVID quarantine

While we are stuch at home until society reopens, I would encourage as many as are willing to do one or more date studies. The benefits of doing this are at least threefold: 1)eliminate duplicate listings, 2)new discoveries, and 3)have fun in the process. For anyone doing Peace dollar research, I am...

Try the VAM 1i series, there appears to be a die chip at the bottom right of the last ray.

VAM 1N obverse was paired with 2 different reverse dies, yours is reverse die #1, showing the clash mark which got both dies polished.

Re: 1922 Peace?

I have looked at my other Peace dollars, all of have this raised area under the beak. Hence it is part of the design. Keep on looking, there are still quite a few good varieties out there waiting to be discovered & listed.

Re: 1922 Peace?

As the "gouge" appears to extend onto the beak, I suspect that it is either an artifact due to differential color in this area or some kind of planchet flaw. If it is neither, then it needs a trip to Leroy.

Re: Common areas of weakness on 1921 Peace dollars

Thank you for the excellent work, and for posting it here. I expect that at some point the grading services will acknowledge the well struck coins, as they do with "Full Head" Standing Liberty quarters and 6-step Jefferson nickels.

Nice pickup, and good job in attributing the coin! Thanks for posting photos. BTW, this reverse die was later used for VAM 1B.
