Re: Polished 1888-S Proof, Vam ???

John, interesting coin to say the least.

Anyone want to take on a die study of the 88-S? If not, I can do it. Shouldn't be too much trouble with a mintage of only 657,000. While I prefer to dwell in later date Morgans, I could take it on in my spare time.

Re: 1904-O VAM-31 Collar Clash?

I have 3 VAM-31s in the " Alan's Unofficial and Self-Appointed VAM Reference Set ". I have little white stickers on them with EDS, MDS and LDS. The only one that kinda looks like this is the EDS. The MDS and LDS coins do not show any of this type of stuff. Based on your photo, I would say your coin ...

Re: confused: 1878 VAM 130C2 vs. 130C3

I find this thread interesting. I started to type this response earlier tonight, and backed out since most folks would just think the curmudgeon was back, which I am. But Tom reinforced my thoughts, so here I am. Having done a LOT of die studies, this is one of my biggest conundrums of this hobby. W...

Re: Grey sheet article about Wayne Miller

I was in Helena back in 2011 for work. I walked by a coin shop and recognized the name on the shop, but did not connect the dots. Wish I had gone in :(

Re: Central States Show in IL

Okay, so life has gotten in the way. I can;t make Central States. We will be moving the St. Louis household to Orlando at that time. This is the first major step for me being able to attend the FUN shows on a regular basis. Likely not in 2021, but for sure starting in 2022.

if it's any consolation, the majority of V45As that have crossed thru my hands came from dealers in So. Cal. :o

Re: 1923 PEACE Dollar Clashed and Scrubbed HARD

I like it, a lot. The first thing I thought of was a clashed E. But looks like it was not biased enough on that side of the coin for it to occur. But your photos don't really show that area in great focus. I would have bought it :D

Re: 1896-O VAM 20?

So with what arguably is a very minor doubled ear lobe, that doesn't help much in my mind to nail down an attribution. To answer your question is complicated, if Obverse AA is paired with Reverse BB, and both OAA or RBB fall within tolerance of an existing VAM description, it could be a Die #1 and D...

Re: 1896-O VAM 20?

Here is my two cents. You seem to be caught in VAMatory. Keep in mind that multiple die pairs may exist. Not a VAM-16. Not a VAM-24, although some V24s seem to have a doubled 1 under the top crossbar. The VAM-29 is listed with a III2-12 obverse die. This is the same as VAM-16, but likely based on ba...

Definitely looks like something "slid" during the coining process.
