1904 O VAM 2A

Does anyone know if the 1904 O VAM 2A comes without any reverse clashing or die polishing lines? The example I have has an observe rim cud at BU and also LU of E PLURIBUS.

Re: New VOTW is Up

I had just found a 1H3 that graded AU 58 and feeling pretty good about it. Then this monster surfaced. Oh well the search continues.

Re: New VOTW is up...

Picked one of these last year. It now resides in an ANACS AU 50 holder. I like it as the VOTW.

Re: Are VAMs going extinct?

A dealer I know had a role of MS 1882 O's he let me look through. It had 5 VAM 38 B's in it. They all looked to be MS 61 or 62's to me so I passed. I told him what they were but I think he ended up just selling the whole role as MS.

Re: The Flip Fliped

Thanks guys. I was shocked when I turned that one over. My take on the VAM 9 is that the reporter was there when the dies clashed and they shut down the press. He reported what was minted to that point, never considering they would start them up again creating the VAM 9A.

Re: The Flip Fliped

Image504.jpg Unbelievable that a dealer could mistake an 1878 8tf VAM 9 (1st die pair) for a 7tf. They are becoming increasingly tough to find in the wild. Well maybe not for Chris just the rest of us. I do feel fortunate about the mislabeled 2x2. I think it may have kept it off of others radar lon...

Re: 1878 VAM 14.4A

Wow, that surprises me. They don't seem to be that common. The two VAM 14.4's that sold on e-bay were both MS 62''s. An NGC sold for $350 and a PCGS for $450.

VAM-23 seems like a good guess.

The ear also resembles VAM-9/14/14.15 obverse.

Not a VAM 23 that could easily been mistaken for a 7TF. Mark you are red hot on the trail.

Re: 1878 VAM 14.4A

Go by the 14.4 sales information. The VAM-2A obverse was paired with a different reverse making the 14.4/A. So unless a very LDS shows up that has the obverse clashing removed, all 14.4s are really 14.4As. PCGS labels all 14.4As as 14.4. So again, the 14.4 sales information really reflects the sale...

No, I can see were you were coming from though. That is not a clash mark at Liberty's neck. It is not a 7TF or A 7/8 TF.

1878 VAM 14.4A

Anybody have any idea what a MS 1878 VAM 14.4A goes for? I have had this coin for a few months now but haven't found any recorded sales. There are couple of 14.4's that sold on Ebay, would the 14.4A value be similar?

Re: Flip the Flip

Okay, here is a hint. It is not a 7 tailfeather as shown on the 2 x 2 flip.

Going through a dealers stock would you have bothered to flip this one over and check out the reverse? Any idea what VAM it is?
