Re: Morgan 1885-O Broken S
I believe the "s" in "Trust" is not broken. Your Morgan is covered in some type of residue (glue, varnish, etc....) that is hiding part of the "s" and is surrounding many parts of your Morgan. Also, see it around the date. Need to poke it with a stick.

You can read about this story and others at the Numismatic Crime Information Center website. It is a unsafe world out there.

Re: Just Out of Curiosity
What was the last VAM the Mr. VanAllen put a discovery lable on since new discoveries are now done by VAM experts? I wouldn't slight Leroy since I would consider him a very substantial VAM expert. After all, without Leroy we wouldn't be where we are with VAMs. It was not intended to slight Mr. Van ...

It was first noted as far as I can tell in January of 2013 in a VAM bulletin called "THE VIEW" and was authored by Dr. Close and Ash Harrison.

A 1885 Tour of U.S. Mint
I love reading old newspapers and this article caught my eye. A reporter's tour of the Philadelphia Mint in 1885 explaining how silver dollars are made. It starts on the first column under "The Silver Dollar". A good read. https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn85034235/1885-12-17/ed-1/seq-1/#dat...

Re: Help with 1886-P (Eight in Denticles)
... Since many of these date digits ended up in the denticles, I believe the person doing the punching put his own mark on the die in order to say to his friends & family that he put that there on a piece of American history. JMO Remember that we're looking at stuff that nobody saw for 100 years. N...

Re: Help with 1886-P (Eight in Denticles)
Unless we get a historical confirmation from the person who did the punching, we shall never know. I do have my own theory on this based on my own woodworking career. Being a craftsman and like many other craftsman, we like to put our mark on our work that does not interfere with the whole look of t...

Re: fun NGC holder error (1921-S)
Just to clarify. This is how a NGC 1921-S holder should look like. Dennis's NGC holder just needs an extra "S".

Re: 1880 VAM 6, not VAM 8 Ears - Right?
Here is another example of a big TPG's getting the wrong VAM number on the slab and it is a obvious one. I did see this one at auction and had reservation about it because of no pic of the date. The only one I trust without a pic of the pick up point is the newer attributed ANACS slabs. I have seen ...

This 1903-O MS 63 Morgan usually sells in the $700 range but this one sells on the bay for over $2800. I really don't see anything special about other than it does have a cac sticker which brings slightly more but not $2100 more. What made this Morgan sell at this price? Is it the old NGC holder? Th...
