Re: I and R numbers

Probably removed because some VAMs I & R factors are not accurate and has been only a guess when Mr. VanAllen determined it when he gave it a new VAM number. Here is a thread you should read to get the jist of it all. http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1276&p=10858&hilit=interest+rari...

I could be wrong, because of the lighting. Are the two obverses shown the same coin?

How Morgan Dollars Became Indian Ruppees

Being a history nerd and a collector of Morgan Dollars, it has come together in this article. I learned a little bit of interesting history today. We now know where much of the silver went after the Pittman Act of 1918.

Re: 1891-O V1Ax - a lit'l guidance?

I am also jealous of messy's 1A2. Yours is a great find of a 1A3. The difference between 1A2 and 1A3 is when the dome die break (1A2) starts to extend the die break to the wreath (1A3) and becomes a complete die failure. Here is my 1A3 which I have not seen a later state yet. In VAMworld 1.0 one of ...

Re: Looking for help on this 1896 o that my lovely wife bought me!?

It will be more difficult to attribute from lower grades like this Morgan. It would be best to narrow it down by date & mintmark placement. It looks to be a near date, which would narrow it down to about 10 VAMs. Check for any doubling on date.

Re: 1881 S vam 54 B

I could never find one in the wild either, so I traded my 78-S VAM 17C MS64 PL for a 81-S VAM 54B MS61 PL from a VAM buddy awhile back. Thought it was a fair trade and I liked the VAM 54B better. I don't have to search that VAM any more. :D

Re: Status of submissions for discovery coins

As per "Guide Lines for New Die Varieties" from VAMworld home page: Submitting Coins Before submitting any coin, it is recommended that photos of the new feature be posted to VAMWorld discussion board for review by other collectors. This can save much time and expense that would be incurred in submi...

Re: Heritage VAM and PL Morgan sale Monday, 9/19

I was impressed with the 80-O VAM 6D auction price. Probably need to update VAM Value Guide on that one. I did pick up the 83-O VAM 36A PCGS 64. I have one of these already but not attributed on label and this one is better looking. The 88-O VAM 1B that went for $2880 I still cannot comprehend. The ...

Re: 1878 S 1 of 4 "Funky Feather" question

I could be wrong but the die chip by the mouth and your mintmark placement might be VAM 50. Both VAM 50 & 76 have the triple or double eyelid & "R" in trust not broken. Only VAM 50 has die chip by mouth. I would guess VAM 50 but I am no expert. Either way, it is an awesome grade for either VAM.
