Re: My Annual ANACS Submission Return

Thanks all.
According to ANACS population report, the 1891 O VAM 1A3 XF 45 is the highest graded for that VAM. I realize there are some PCGS VAM 1A3's in PCGS holders all the way up to AU 55. I think that has to be my pick of the year.

My Annual ANACS Submission Return

Though 2019 has been much tougher year to cherry pick great VAMs, I am pleased with what I have found. I took advantage of the ANACS special. I only had 5 Morgan VAM picks for the year, :( so I had to insert another 5 American coins to accomplish the ANACS 10 coin special. These non-Morgans are coin...

IMO it is post mint damage. If not post mint damage, it could only be a strike thru of some sort, but that is a long shot.

Breakout

What is the best way to take break out a coin from a TPG holder using everyday or around the house items? Is it different for different company's holders say PCGS to ANACS or NGC? Is there one that is difficult to breakout?

Re: How do I resize an image?

What I do from my iPhone is send the photos to my email and when it ask me what file size I want to send it in, I choose the smaller size. So when I open up my email it should be the smaller size pic.

Re: New VAM-e

Great article Dennis. The 1895-S VAM 1A is also the toughest one to find in the Broken Mintmark Set. One day, I will find one.
Also, if you didn't find the VAM-e in your mailbox, look in your junk mail. That is where mine landed.

Re: Die Polishing

It's explained in pretty good detail on p. 58 of the VAM book, although it omits the use of an emery stick to selectively polish out clash marks. Short answer is spinning the with some polishing grit with the die face held against dished plate. The book From Mine to Mint should have even more detai...

Die Polishing

I see it often in the Morgan and Peace Series. Do we know exactly what tool or item they used to polish the dies? Did it change over time any? Was it done by hand? My mind wants to know. :?:

Re: 1878s Doubled RIB

It could not fit VAM 111. VAM 111 has unbroken 4th right star. Yours is broken. Try VAM 71. It looks to be an engraved wing feather type but the coin is worn well so its hard to determine by pics. Good Luck!

Re: 1888 P Morgan with double clashed reverse. What VAM is this?

I cannot say what VAM it is but I would use the attribution guides to narrow it down. You can start by "date position" (looks like a near slanted date) or by "double ears VAMs" or by "reverse" or by "clash" on the 1888 P listing page. Clashing is not always associated with a VAM #. If there is no le...

Re: Fred Flintstone Slab

Here's a really old holder from the Coin Rarities Online archive . https://www.coinraritiesonline.com/images/pictures/1795-mg03656s.jpg?1571230666 I never got to see it in hand, but I'd be curious as to the composition of the plastic part, as that might be the best way to date it. Talk about an old...

Re: Fred Flintstone Slab

I have no idea who made it but by the looks of it, it looks kinda home made. Maybe a coin collector club door prize? or auction company? I would guess being made in 1980's or 90's by the paper and font on front. JMO
