Re: Anyone recognize this 79-S?
If it's not the same, then it's a seriously evil mimic. There are multiple vertical lines under the cotton bolls and that diagonal line in the L of LIBERTY too.

Re: Anyone recognize this 79-S?
Wow, think you're right. Looks a little different in a higher grade. But, there's enough there to convince me it's a match. Thanks!

Anyone recognize this 79-S?
Thought it would be pretty basic since it has a strong RPM - but I'm coming up empty.

Re: 1897 Vam 6A
So is the J shaped scratch at the bottom of the ear present? Why is the 'dot' a different color?
I'll invite you to entertain the idea that I and others on this site might know a little bit more about VAMs than your guy at the local coin store.

Re: 1878-S VAM-17 EDS?
The slot listing was for denticle impressions. The early stage doesn't have them. It's akin to the unclashed version of a clashed die listing

Re: 1921-D VAM 1AO - is it valid?
The filled die was on an early stage with no breaks. A crack pattern matching VAM 1P would have likely prevented the duplicate listing from its inception. Thanks again for the help with putting this one to rest

Re: 1921-D VAM 1AO - is it valid?
Thanks guys. I'd call this VAM 1P1. I don't think it would affect the later stages. Based on this VAM 1AO should be eliminated.

1921-D VAM 1AO - is it valid?
So I have the discovery piece on my desk now and I am wondering if any of you (Dennis) recognize this as another VAM. I have that strong sense of 'deja-vam' and can't find a match. The strike thru that caused the missing letter entry wouldn't get listed today. There are faint scribbles and a strong ...

Re: way OT: phone charger adapters?
I'd think one of those round plugs for what used to be the cigarette lighter with the USB port on the other end would work. That's if the other end of your charging cord is a standard USB

A visit with Leroy
Saturday I made the drive from just outside Columbus over to Sidney and met up with John Baumgart (who drove much further) in front of Leroy's assisted living apartment building. We found Mr. Van Allen waiting for us with several friends in the dining room and after a short tour around the place spe...

Re: 1921 D VAM 1AN Reinstatement ?
VAM 1AN was delisted by Van Allen. To get it back officially, either John or myself would need to see examples of both the 1AN and 12A side by side. Think I've have at least one example of VAM 1AN cross my desk since it was delisted and still used the 1AN designation. It would be nice to clear this ...
