Re: Modified upper tail feathers

Both solid examples of this sort of touch up work, and highly likely done by the same pair of hands. Great pictures!

Re: Meet your new Official Attributors

For my part I'm honored to be an integral part of this going forward. I envision most if not all new Morgan listings being signed off on by both John and myself. Not necessarily in hand by both, but I do see a LOT of emails going back and forth. And there is no one more qualified to make determinati...

1878 VAM 131 proof dies

I had this variety come up as a question in a submission yesterday. I noticed we have full coin shots for the proof only Die 2 pairing but no close up shots of its unique diagnostics. There's a fairly bold but close spread under the eyelid A diagonal line over some die chips inside the lower loop of...

Re: Blanchard Holder

I have 9 examples (including 2 Redfield) with the white Blanchard label with gold lettering. They all have that scratch inside the reverse shell. I also have 1 with a grey label and white lettering - no scratch.

Re: Blanchard Holder

Both the Blanchard and Paramount holders represent coin dealers grading their own inventory. Third party grading existed at this time, but it was still in it's infancy. I don't ever recall seeing a Blanchard Redfield holder for anything other than Peace Dollars. There's a wide array of pieces in the...

Re: SSDC Registry deadline is Dec 1st

It's that time again. December 1st is coming soon. We didn't have an alternate version of VAM Thing last year so the registry awards were not announced or presented. We are going to double dip this time and do last year's then this year's awards. Still going with silver eagles in custom holders for ...

Re: Blanchard Holder

I'd be in favor of this as I have a group of these. The problem is how to weight their grading. A possible solution is that they only count for a Blanchard set and aren't admissible in others. How that works is beyond me.

Re: 1926P $229.99 + $9.99 S&H Bradford Ex.

The master die for 1926 had the word "GOD' strengthened. It is visibly in slightly higher relief than all of the other words in the motto. Any 1926 Peace Dollar would have this feature unless it's heavily worn - so yeah....

Re: PCGS has graded 2021 Morgans

Strictly a bulk seller game at this point. Gotta push the 70's at grossly inflated prices before you drop a single 69 at a lower but still grossly inflated price. Coming soon to a TV near you.....

Re: any ideas?

It is a clashmark and the very thing that puts the beard on a bearded eagle. It's from the curved underside of the eagle's neck. It's a deep and protected area that's about impossible to polish away without creating a big void. Look on Liberty's neck at the hairline for traces of the beak

Re: 1887 morgan 7 over 6 help

Let's get more basic. Is the shape of the digits and lettering correct? What's it weigh?

Was it actually minted in the United States in 1887?

Re: 1924 VAM 1BB

It's flat out wrong and I doubt there's actually any trace of an E clash present. I own the VAM 1BB discovery piece and have since it was listed.
Here's a full shot of obverse and reverse.
